Permanent Opponents should go away

The SEC needs to do away with the permanent opponent all together and instead have a rolling schedule where LSU would play every team in the league every 2 years and play a home and away against every team every 4 years. I think I’d prefer to play teams like Georgia and Tennessee a little more often. You still get to play old rivals every other year. As much as I like traditional rivals I think I’d rather play every team twice in a 4 year span as shown below. Some teams LSU would occasionally 3 times in 4 years as the schedule rolls along in the same order. Every SEC team would have the identical rolling schedule this way. The current way the SEC does it LSU plays Vandy again in like 5 years.

I see where you're going and we play Florida every year. If we win that game, that makes us better. Our resume' I should say. Florida is usually a ranked team.
Bama on the other hand has to play TN every year who is still trying to find an identity. That's win for Bama.
Bama seldom has to play legitimate threats, being it OOC or conference foes during the season. I understand that the schedules are made years in advance but still, that is telling to not schedule more than one threat to Bama, aside from us.
I do think they play UGA in the regular season next year but Fromm will be gone then, TN will still be looking for a coach and identity.
We benefited greatly from playing UGA last season. Why Bama avoids this is telling, to me.
It's not right, but it's how the media sells it.

Bama typically plays a very good OOC team every year. Go back and look at their schedules. And it’s all cyclical. Tennessee was an elite SEC team 15-20 years ago so back you could say then Bama got screwed.
And the permanent cross division concept was to keep rivalry games intact.

I agree.

Like Duke and an over ranked USC? I'm not trying to be a jerk but they hardly play a real threat.

Absolutely they were. TN is still searching for an identity and a coach to lead them to that. They aren't the TN of when Fulmer was there. I don't give a crap if Bama gets screwed over. They screw over everyone else simply because of who their coach is.
We have a more difficult season than they do. Usually every year. I think that benefits us but as long as Alabama keeps beating up on lesser talented teams, while they are in the Power 5, it makes no difference.
It doesn't help their resume'. Which is fine with me. They're going off of the previous season which is pretty ridiculous but it's Saban so let's drool all over him.
Not you personally but the media.
Again, I don't mean any disrespect.

15-20 years ago is cyclical? My youngest son graduated high school and has never seen a good Tennessee team.

The SEC has always been about 5 teams east of the Alabama -Mississippi line. The League office has been trying very hard since 1992 to get and have equitable schedules. They also want unbiased officiating.

Also, with a “rolling schedule” where LSU plays every team in the league every 2 years you see you never play the same team on the same date each year. Some years the Bama game might be early in the season and other years it might be late in the season. This way every team would play the identical rolling schedule and teams like Alabama can’t plan their open date before the LSU game every year. LSU has this new Ferrari offense and Nick Saban will have 2 weeks to plan for it. So far, that arrangement hasn’t worked in LSU’s favor. I like the odds better if Joe Burrow can go at Bama with only a week to prepare.

SEC should go to 9 games and eliminate permanent opponents. Bama wants to keep lame Tennessee, and Georgia likes the Auburn rivalry game, so these are two influential schools lobbying for continuance of this shite practice.

I don’t like permanent opponents because I don’t have an Eastern team I want to play every year. I think we should play two revolving East teams a year with the traditional power teams (Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida) separated by the rest.
The only argument for permanent opponents is the middle SEC teams old rivalrie. Let them meet in non conference games on years they wouldn’t be scheduled as SEC opponents.

You’re correct. Alabama/Tennessee and Auburn/Georgia is the driving force of the permanent opponent set up. However, now that it’s in place you have other schools that like the set up. Ole Miss/Vandy and Miss St/Kentucky to name a couple. Why would they want to change and get possibly get a tougher game? What you end up with is enough votes to keep it in place.
I seriously doubt if you’ll see any change to it anytime soon.

I prefer pods personally. So every team would be placed in to a 4 team pod trying to group up historic rivalries as best as they can. Then every year you play the 3 other teams in your pod your pod is matched up with another one and you play all four of those teams. That way everybody plays everybody once every 3 years at least. Then the conference championship is just decided between the two best records overall or the two leaders of each pair of pods.
Bad thing about this is we would probably be put in to a shitty pod with the Big 12 teams like
LSU A&M Arkansas Mizzou
