I haven't seen it mentioned, but Herman told everyone, including his own team, that they were overmatched, and that he felt like they would need to play desperate to win

2 fourth down calls that followed a reverse pass to his QB in the 1st Q, not to mention using their best designed misdirection screen on the first play of the game.

Most coaches would save that play for a more critical moment.

Will take me a few more games to get used to this

Funny. We are pretty much saying the same thing about our DC.

How many times did they go for it on 4th? Seemed like a lot more than 2 times. Unless you’re just talking about the goal line stands.

I agree. Texas pulled out all the stops. It wasn’t as close as it looked.

I don't blame anyone for being unimpressed by the final stat sheet on defense but it was a really good gameplan from Herman, and I think that boils down to him knowing the system Orlando and Aranda run inside and out. He knew where the soft spots would be all night, and Ehlinger just flat out made throws. I don't necessarily think Texas has the best offense we'll face, but I do think this was the toughest offensive matchup we'll face all year.

I said the same thing about Herman using that screen play and reverse pass to the QB. I thought he was unloading their clip a little too early with those plays and our defense was going to dig in after that initial push by Texas. Give credit to Herman and SE because they gave Aranda and company fits. People are freaking out about the defense but we are in good hands and will get it fixed.

I’ll admit that even as an LSU fan, i’ve been guilty in the past of buying into the narrative of Coach O being a little over his head, or not on par with some other bright minds in coaching.. i’m starting to think i was wrong, and very happy to be wrong in this case.

I'm still of the mindset that Orgeron brings far less to the table in terms of Xs and Os than a typical head coach. But he does bring a willingness to adapt, the ability to recognize when that needs to be done, and the sense to bring in the folks who can help him do that. He may not be an offensive or defensive minded genius like a lot of high profile head coaches but I'm becoming happier and happier that he's ours.

Many USC fans and people in the athletic department wanted to promote O to head coach. They got overruled by suits. He can coach.

I tailgated a year ago outside the L.A. Memorial Coliseum before the Wazzu - Southern Cal game. The people I met LOVE Coach O., and were so sad to lose him.

USC folks absolutely love that man!

Hermann was running around with his playsheet furiously calling plays. Coach O let his experts in the booth do all that for him. Coach O like any great leader, delegates and listens to his people. Puts everyone in a position to be successful. He knows what his strengths are, and has learned his weaknesses and he has changed accordingly. I'll take coach O over any coach out there right now.

People can be so silly if Miles was still here LSU would have won SEC last year and this year texas would have scored 17 points to LSUs 37 ,with SEC being down last year Coach O and MIles would have recruited even better last year and this year ! I cant prove this and yall cant prove the trash yall talk about Miles and O either !
..... Go read what the Kansas Jayhawk fans are saying about Miles already after 2 games..you will think it’s TigerRant all over again... deja vu....

He even admits last night that his instinct was to order the offense to go conservative in the late moments of the game but he was told to stay aggressive.

Interesting. Around this same time I told my friends watching the game that I have a strong feeling Coach O wants to go conservative here and run the ball to burn some clock. Glad he didn’t. UT was gassed and it was time to pour it on and staying aggressive gave Joe the opportunity to make a critical heismanesque third down conversion to Jefferson for a TD.

I mean, had queen got a hand on the last TD throw, we would have won by 2 touchdowns. The game wasn’t really as close as everyone is making it out to be

The first half was not close.

The 2nd half, our defense got overconfident on top of not hydrating properly. That’s all there was to it. I highly doubt you see them make that mistake again. No one left on our schedule will put up more that 24 points on us.

Did I miss a quote here?

I heard him say he asked Ensminger if they wanted to go into a 4 minute offense and E responded no, they were going to stay aggressive. Because it's a pretty huge leap to turn that quote into O admitting his instinct was to "order the offense to go conservative."

Besides, the goal of 4 minute offense is to get first downs. It's not necessarily super conservative. The vaunted Saints offense goes 4 minute all the time.

I think the heat was the great equalizer. Early in the game our defense was effective. We had a comfortable lead and the ball after the half. Unfortunately we made a mistake by dropping a third down conversion. They made a long time consuming drive and our defense never recovered.
From then to the finish it was a contest between offenses. Fortunately Burrow and the receivers were able to keep up the pace.

That goddamn onside kick was right there and ALMOST recovered, and then they'd have the ball with 22 seconds at midfield. After what we saw the second half, are you SURE they don't score again?
For that matter, if they do score, are you SURE we can stop them on a 2 pt conversion to win?

I'm not. And I was glad we went for 2 to make it 14 when we did. I felt like we needed that, because you knew the chance of the onside would come into play.

They brought their A game, and our defense was gassed at the end. Hats off to them for putting up such a fight, and hats off to us for overcoming that.
