Why not have his old helmet tested and see if it passes the standard set?
So what if it’s old? That’s no reason to automatically say he can’t use it. The standards are there. Test it.
Have him agree that if it fails, he changes, if it passes he can wear it.

It’s not made anymore and can not get certifiable parts for it
It’s warranty is no longer valid (5 years) and shell life is 10 years
NOCSAE will never recertify a hat 10 years old
NFL NFLPA collective bargained this
