Fear Inoculum - Title Track and Video

quote:

The LP, TOOL's fifth full-length album, will sport seven tracks but will run an astounding 80 minutes, with virtually none of the songs adhering to the standard format for a radio single. As for the concept of the disc, Jones said it came to revolve around the number seven.

Jones explained: "I took a picture pointing to the number seven while we were recording, and a lot of the riffs Justin [Chancellor, bassist] and I brought in were in seven. You don't really go, 'I'm going to write a riff in seven!'" He added, "Without being too descriptive about the concept, the main thing is that the seven beat just kept coming up, and riffs in seven kept coming up. It was really weird!"

Jones continued: "Then Maynard [James Keenan, singer] told me about a whole concept he had about the number seven. We were all, like, 'Oh my God! This is too weird!' Then Alex Grey [TOOL album artist] basically said the same thing and he has a concept that will reveal itself through video."

Inoculum roughly translates to planting seed of fear

Will we have to buy a CD or will they actually let buy the album from one of the streaming services?

It's not really hard to understand why Tool didn't want their albums on digital. There is definitely something about the experience that's lost when you have that easy and cheap access to switch to and from artist to artist album to album. It's a big decision to commit to it, especially for a band thats been around since 1990 and clearly cares about their music more than money. You can't take that decision back.

The way tool operates is that all 4 of them have to sign off on huge decisions like that. MJK obviously doesn't care because all of his other shite is on spotify.

People are gonna hate on this album because it isn't Aenima 2.0 just like they did the last two. This isn't the angry group of 20-30yr olds from the 90s. Aside from Chancellor, all of these guys are in their mid to late 50s and have started families since the last album. Different people than they were 20+ years ago.

Holy crap, listening on a good system transforms this already amazing song.

Crack it up to 11, its what TOOL deserves

I know I'm shite posting at this point, but holy crap, do yourself a favor and listen to this on over ear headphones..
It's a totally different experience

It's crazy to think about the journey, in 2006, the last new TOOL material I was a single guy playing in a band touring the gulf south with Dax Riggs.

Now Im a married dude with 3 kids jamming to Fear Inoculum in a minivan, I've been through a shitton since then as I'm sure most fans have

They sum it up real well.

Every time I listen I hear something new. As I said before, there is no mistake this is Tool. I couldn't be any happier with the product.

Parts of the album are growing on me after listening a few times but this one feels different. It's technically amazing, and that carries it, but it doesn't immediately gets its hooks into you like Undertow, Ænima, and Lateralus. Seems like they're in a different place mentally, which is completely understandable.

Huge Tool fan here, and while after 6-7 listens, I'm not quite ready to anoint it top 2.

In my opinion...

#1 - Aenima

#2 - Lateralus

#3 - Fear Inoculem

#4 - 10,000 days

#5 - Opiate.

Obviously you cant go wrong with any tool record. And it would't surprise me to see FI climb the ladder the more I listen.

While Lateralus is fantastic, I would never rate that over AEnima. Could be nostalgia, but that album was a fricking 10. Crazy that everyone selects Lateralus #1 on their list. Then again, it is Tool, and there isn't a right or wrong answer here.
