I'm sorry but yesterday's women's final and today's men's final show exactly why equal pay is such a farce in tennis.

Are you truly going to sit here and tell me that Serena Williams deserves the same runner up pay as either Novak Djokovich or Roger Federer when she barely even showed up for the women's final and was on the court for less than an hour. Meanwhile the loser of the men's final is going to have been out there for over 4 hours and get the same pay.

That's not equal pay, that's the women getting MORE pay for their work (per set, per hour, however you want to judge it) than the men. Women getting to work less for the same pay. That is ridiculous.

If Simona Halep and Serena Williams had any respect they would give some of their winnings to Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

In the very least the women's tournament should be best of 5 sets. The women want equal pay, make them earn it.

So what happens if a Woman's three-set final lasts longer than a three-set men's final.

Do the women deserved to be paid more?

The Williams sisters were once beat by a 203rd ranked man who smoked cigs in between the matches

So what about in Masters 1000s tournament's when it's 2 out of 3 sets for both? Should the women make less? Get off your soapbox it's not like you're seeing any of that money in your bank accounts

It is all about butts in the seats.

same number of butts/ratings on TV same money, if not then forcing it to be equal is BS

Dudes can probably make more in endorsements, prize money is only a piece of it.

Well, 3 dudes can, don't know that anybody cares about any of the others.

So if their matches were equal length they should get paid the same? Stupid. You’re paid on value, on which case, yes men should be paid more in this case.

Nobody wants to watch 5 sets of women. The level of play between the top men and top women isn’t even close.

It shouldn't have to do with time. It should be the fact that men have to play 50-60% more points on average for each match. That is why equal purses at these tournaments is a joke.

Either make women play best 3/5 or tell the to STFU and take less money like is deserved.

Similar to WNBA players asking for equal pay yet playing less than half the games of the men each year. Not to mention the lower revenue.

For me it's as simple as this....does any women's, whatever it is...produce as much money as men's. If it does than they should be paid accordingly. If it does not they should not. That simple.

I have no idea if women's tennis puts as many fans in the seats, garners as much television sponsor revenue, etc., etc. as men's tennis but I will say it seems to me the only perceived major sport that it's even close. And I could be wrong on that.

The soccer thing that seems to be the hot button issue for this, I understand that while the U.S. women might produce competitively in that sense than the men due to relative success, that in the rest of the world it's not even remotely close.

Depends on ratings and sponsors IMO.

Should both have to play 5 sets. How long the matches take is irrelevant considering that is dependent on how good a particular player is. But make them play the same amount of sets and let the money chips fall where they may.

Real simple solution, have one tournament anyone male or female can enter . The winner of that tournament makes the most . Then you can have side tournaments for female only ? You know with the dumbass trans movement this is going to happen. A tran is going to go and beat all the real women

It would be hilarious to watch Serena try and play Federer or Djokovic.
