This is why I think a lot of people really aren't afraid of Russian Military or their propaganda. This shouldn't be happening.

Their navy is underfunded. Their submarine force is the one thing they generally do well, but then you have examples like the Kursk, and now this.

They, like the rest of the world, lack far behind the United States in naval capabilities. If you think the Russian military shouldn't be respected because of this you are mistaken. They have extremely capable missile technology, a very capable air force, and a very large and organized army. Maintaining a state of the art Navy is expensive and difficult and Russia has had great difficulty with this since the collapse of the USSR. Most nations don't even try.
