A lot of people aren’t cut out for marriage.

Less sex (is this a trend?) thus less knock ups thus less shotgun weddings-marriages could have some legs.

Each generation has less testosterone than the previous one, so their sex drives are greatly diminished. Couple that with porn addictions, and they might talk and think about sex often, but there isn't as much doing.

What's the marriage rate among black people? Serious question. It used to be higher than whites.l pre-1960's. The divorce rates among blacks were considerably lower as well. I know that's not the case anymore, but it seems almost like a rarity to meet a married black couple, or even a non-state "licensed" nuclear family where the father is involved in the lives of the mother and his child/ren, under the age of 40 in BR.

Most will blame LBJ and the Great Society, but that's really only part of the problem. People dont just think "hey I have a welfare program so I dont need marriage" in a literal sense.

Blacks stuck together more before the 1970s because racism in education, housing etc meant that in order to survive you had to support each other. This also ties in with Black Universities and businesses as well.

Now I'm not saying Blacks should have left it all behind, simply that interdependence played a role in staying together.

Imagine if you and 2 family members you have bad relationships with were stuck on island with few resources not knowing when help would arrive. Youd have to work together and put aside your differences to live on.

For all the shite we give millennials, the boomers are the most degenerate generation in US history and brought us the all time record divorce, violent crime, abortion and unwed birth rates in the 70s-80s. And because they also fricking suck at managing money, we’re gonna spend the next 20 years dealing with a bunch of poor, homeless old people until they die out.

Truth. There's just something extremely self-centered about a large percentage of them.

Let's clarify that by blaming the hippie leaning boomers with their love of sex, drugs and anti-establishment agenda. I'd say it's about a 50/50 split between the takers and the givers of that generation.

It's always easy to judge the older generation before you because they have lived the life and can be judged unlike generations below them who haven't lived the life just yet to be judged.

Let’s not pretend as if our generation is some moral standard bearer

Single parent homes are everywhere and it’s a massive problem

Familiarity breeds contempt. I have had these discussions with fellow old people at the gym. When I tell people the reason we are so happy is because our wildly different schedules results in us being together only 1 waking hour and 3 sleeping hours per day they all say 'Wow, that would be wonderful.'

Meh. It's a big part of the problem. Changing moral values hit the country, overall, pretty hard and declining subjective valuation of marriage was certainly part of that.

I don't disagree. It wasn't like a light switch, but it didn't take very long to figure out how to turn on various money spigots. Anything you subsidize will result in more of it. That's an economic fact of life.

Well, I've said this on this board many times - American blacks have developed survival instincts from their relatively unique combination of experiences, slavery, Jim Crow, the Civil Rights movement, and those instincts served them relatively well until the 1970s. This (not derogating, this seems to be a popular term, recognizing a very real thing) "tribalism" should be discarded, in my opinion, because we can either have 1 American society (with various subcomponents) or we can remain mired in a however officially/unofficially segregated past.

We can't do both. Giving a shite about the color of a person's skin is something we're going to have to get past. Period.

I agree in some ways, but the kids, as I have seen, are used as a tool or "staying for the kids". In some ways, I think its worse. They end up growing up seeing their parents at each other throats.

While each case is individual,
Demonstrating commitment is a good thing
Demonstrating monogamy is a good thing
Both parents raise better children, especially boys, 80% of jailed felons come from single mother homes.
And they don’t necessarily have to be “at each other’s throats”. Conflict resolution is a critical adult skill useful in social, professional, political, and familiar situations.

Huh

It's almost as if segregation is a natural and positive tendency

That makes sense....thankfully it started out at a pretty elevated level on up my family tree. My great grandad must have been a damn animal.

Women don't have much testosterone at all. That's why they don't have a sex drive.

This is extremely difficult to overcome when you grow up hearing for decades that white people hate you for being born. You won't get food, equal education, equal opportunity for jobs, equal wealth, and it will never be possible without my help. And it's disgusting because people only say it for political gain.
