Referring to teams in general, not just LSU

How would these old teams have fared with current format of super regional, 3 game final?

Recall many teams make CWS on tails of 1 pitcher. Fresno State in 91, The Citadel in 90?

Gorilla ball in the 90's was legit but watching skip build the program was fun in the 80's. We have had very talented teams in the 2000's but honestly we have underachieved well except for 2009 Imho. College baseball is such a toss up though with the mlb draft and the scholarship limits so who knows.

I'm going to go a little of tangent here so apologies in advance, but I think the '97 LSU Baseball team was one of the great college baseball teams of all time.

It was a team that literally defined the era of "gorilla ball", as they were the biggest gorillas in the jungle.

It's a team that is not only anecdotal as college baseball's most powerful team, but it also won the natty, and that alone for me makes it one the great college baseball teams of all time, as subjective as such notions exist...Subjective as to mean, how many people dismiss the '07 Patriots as the greatest NFL team because David Tyree made an improbable catch?

I'll take the steroid era vs today's boring baseball.

Its not just steroids. The bats were completely different. I believe the players today must be just as skilled. I catch myself all the time saying "that would have been a homer" etc etc. At a lot of fly balls/fly outs

The older teams were better, they had less competition back then so their rosters were more stacked.

Teams had to win a 6 team double elimination tournament that lasted from Thursday-Sunday. At the minimum teams had to win 4 games in 4 days to advance. Teams making the CWS “on the tail of one pitcher” is much easier in today’s format where your ace can throw game 2 of a regional and then win the first game of a Super Regional.

Today’s teams would slaughter them - no matter what bats and balls were used. The top two or three old.teams could hold their own, and win if they used the old equipment, but the bottom four teams mostly could not make the NCAA tournament.

The talent in college baseball is way greater today.

BSER vs BBCR

Steroids vs Non-steroids

Rosentblatt vs TD Ameritrade

Big ball vs Small ball

One is far more dominant than the other.

Give me 80/90’s over today, no doubt.

Referring to college baseball as a whole? I think today's teams are far better than the old days. I think tons more talent is going to college these days and being developed very well in college.

Look at the pitching on the LSU rosters for LSU between 87 and 93. No team before or since was as loaded. I would put most of those teams up against any LSU teams.
