I walked on my back porch today and was met by thousands and thousands of bugs. They are mosquito size but don’t bite and are hanging on my back porch only. I have no clue what type of bug they are? Any help/ suggestions how to get rid of them or what they might be? Baton Rouge area with a pond in the backyard

Love bugs?

Are the black with a red dot on them?
Would think it’s too early for them, though maybe not down there.

This would be my guess too. Here in N.O. we are being swarmed by termites this time of year.

I had to call my neighbor just 2 night ago since he has flood lights that light up his back yard pool and they had hundred of termites swarming around that light.

They are called mosquito hawks.

They dont live very long, only 2-3 weeks. Just try to keep the door shut and outdoor lights off. They REALLY like light. They'll be gone soon.

In my part of the world, N.O. area, mosquito hawks are what we call Dragon Flies and they are nowhere near the same size as a mosquito.

Pics always help but it could likely be midges as others have said, as you mentioned you have a pond (koi?) in the backyard.

Before this month I never saw or knew what a midge was. My new house is infested. Look like a lighter color mosquito and buzz just like them. Had to buy a mosquito zapper. Put s nice dent in the population

Can't say for sure without pics. Sounds like fungus gnats.
