#99 Rydell Melancon 6-1, 215 (1980-83)
Melancon started out as a defensive lineman before eventually switching to linebacker.

One of my favorite names growing up. When I would go to the stadium, I would hear his name called all the time.

Ron Sancho: I honestly can't remember 1 single sack by Sancho. Don't recall him being much of a pass rusher. During his time Michael Brooks was the best pass rusher on the team. Brooks only played 3 seasons. After his knee injury he really wasn't the same player, no nearly as good a pass rusher. I remember Sancho being better dropping into coverage and against the run on the outside. Melvin Oliver is also a surprise on this list. Rydell was very athletic and played on some very talented defensive teams. There were several players during his time that were great pass rushers-Leonard Marshall, Tim Joiner, Bill Elko, Al Richardson, Ramsey Dardar. I didn't get to watch Gabe play much. After April '91 when I went into the USAF I could only see LSU play when they were on national TV. Missed a lot of games and players between '91 to '94 seasons.
