Depends on the state you are in at the time and the type permit you have and reciprocity laws. Generally, though, once you cross over into 'Yankeeland" on the trail, you are going to encounter strict CC and open carry regulations.

It’s f’ing bananas that it’s illegal to carry a weapon in places that law enforcement has no expectation/intention/ability to provide any illusion of protection.
It’s not a defensible idea.
