Reggie Bush ran a 10.42 100m in HS, then ran a 4.33 forty at his Pro Day.

Devin Hester also ran a 10.42 100m, but ran a 4.41 at the NFL Combine.

Those sub-4.5 numbers should translate similarly for Trey Palmer, but yet his 247 profile page says he ran a 4.51 forty laser-timed at the Opening.

Trey's forty is the same as 240lbs Leonard Fournette's 4.51 at the NFL combine who ran a 10.68 100m in HS Class 4A Regional.

I gotta figure Palmer is normally sub 4.5.

Correct on LF7’s best 100m in HS at 10.68.

Boutte ran a 20.8 something in the 200m and that was top 3 in country at the time.

Interestingly, Boutte’s best official 100m appears to be 10.97 according to MileSplit.

Agree. 10.42 FAT 100m should translate to a sub 4.5 electronic 40, depending on how good his start is. Somtimes kids with good 100m times are striders who take awhile to get to top speed. Bottom line is the kid has legit speed!

Even if you have elite speed, the 40 time is about technique. You have to learn how to run it.

As he matures I would expect him to put on muscle which will help coming out of the gates. He has an extra gear for sure. I think he will be the steal of the class. There definitely weren’t thirty better receivers than him last year. By the time he gets to the combine I would expect a 4.40 maybe even 4.3s.

What it means is guys like Bush and Hester hit top end speed quick. Palmer is a guy who continues to accelerate over a longer distance.

That should translate well for getting separation on longer routes.
