"New Orleans gave Miami second round picks in 2019 and 2020 to move up 14 spots for McCoy."

The following statement means the same thing.

"New Orleans gave Miami a second round pick in 2020 to move up 14 spots for McCoy"

People use the first statement to push their agenda that it was a bad move.

'Moving up', implies switching places to any football fan with a brain.

Actually the second implies that the Saints still would have had the 62nd pick

Actually, it’s just the opposite. The first statement is more accurate and less misleading. It more clearly states what actually happened. The second statement is more ambiguous.

The Saints lost multiple picks and received fewer picks in return. Stop trying to hide that and make it sound better.

Do you understand Economics? The opportunity cost of the Saints drafting McCoy is the multiple players that could have been drafted if the picks had not been traded away.
