This statement is misleading.

"New Orleans gave Miami second round picks in 2019 and 2020 to move up 14 spots for McCoy."
The following statement means the same thing.
"New Orleans gave Miami a second round pick in 2020 to move up 14 spots for McCoy"
People use the first statement to push their agenda that it was a bad move.
'Moving up', implies switching places to any football fan with a brain.

Actually the second implies that the Saints still would have had the 62nd pick

Actually, it’s just the opposite. The first statement is more accurate and less misleading. It more clearly states what actually happened. The second statement is more ambiguous.
The Saints lost multiple picks and received fewer picks in return. Stop trying to hide that and make it sound better.
Do you understand Economics? The opportunity cost of the Saints drafting McCoy is the multiple players that could have been drafted if the picks had not been traded away.

I'm having trouble following this argument here. We got picks 48 and 116 in return for picks 62 and 202, plus our second round pick next year. Seems like the most accurate way to describe the deal is that we gave up next year's second in order to move one pick up 14 spots and a second pick up 86 spots.

Absolutely right, they didn't give up one pick, they gave up two. We gave up the pick that was used on Andy Isabella, and it also took away whatever player will be used in next years draft
Andy Isabella + 2020 Second Round Draft Pick= 2 picks total
lol

Am I missing something? Is the league's own NFL.com website erroneous in listing the particulars of this trade? We give 62, 202, and next year's second for 48 and 116?
The "cost" was next year's second round pick. The "gain" was moving one pick up 14 spots and a second pick up 86 spots in this year's draft. Whether you think moving the two picks up this number of spots was or wasn't worth next year's second can certainly be argued...but that's the actual "value" each team gave in the trade. Saints gave up next year's two; Dolphins gave up a total of 100 draft order spots over two picks.

This isnt economics, and you cant look at it through those lenses. This is football. Football has accepted lingo, which is not applicable to your economic terms.

Wrong. The information that I just gave all of you clearly explains the costs associated with the deal. These terms and these costs are applicable to every industry, including football and other professional sports. Just because you don't understand them doesn't mean that they are inapplicable.
I've already laid out the costs. The only thing left to be seen is whether or not the benefits will outweigh those costs. I am of the opinion that the benefits will probably not outweigh the costs because they normally don't in these scenarios. The odds are against us.

Just like last year with the 1st’s, we swapped 2nd round picks.
Posted on 4/26/19 at 10:36 pm to FightingTigers138
Dont waste time on this. I think some people actually think that a team would give up the 48th and 116th draft slots for 62nd and 202 without getting anything in return. That would be like someone asking me to break a $20 bill and I give him 2 $5 bills and expect that to be okay
Posted on 4/26/19 at 10:45 pm to t00f
Well, we did, but there was more exchanged than just the 2nd round picks, but you get that.

This, we gave up next year's 2 and to improve our draft spots this year. Not hard at all to understand for those with a brain and without an agenda.
People are stupid and generally suck.

No, it doesn't because "moving up" implies that the original pick was given up as well.
