Flowerbed is close to front porch so I don’t want something that will mature to a large size. Something easy to grow that I can build a small flowerbed around.

Japanese red maple. Gorgeous tree, slow growing. Spring and fall red color.

Come holly. Shaped, manicured, good looking, and easy to maintain

What is your max height you want?
I’m a big believer in edible landscaping so I would recommend a dwarf fruit tree or bush, especially blueberry. I know it isn’t for everyone though.

I've got a sweet olive, prolly 2 years old now, that is growing/leaning due to it chasing the sun. Going to have to figure out how to straighten her up.

Pineapple Guava Tree. It is low maintenance, grows in just about any soil and produces tasty flowers/fruit. Also Self pollinator.
Sweet olive or Japanese magnolia are good choices like said above too.
