A guy I work with has spent 8-10K a year on travel ball since his daughter was 9 years old. She's maximized her ability and as a senior she's a pretty good HS player, but that's all. She may be able to walk on at a smaller school, but she's not getting a scholly. He could have saved up all that money and be able to pay her full tuition anywhere she wants to go.

but if she didn't do ball, she would be pregnant and banging weed dealers.

Was scholarship the goal though? Maybe she just liked playing and he support led her hobby

If they had put that money is a 529, they would have college pretty much paid for.
