This is good advice.
Generally speaking, kind of 3 big zones
Shorter length 3/4 wt: smaller freshwater streams with tight casting expected
5 wt: popular for freshwater lakes and larger rivers
8 wt: most popular/versatile saltwater
I've never personally had a reason to go larger than that.
Edit: just saw later response. Agree with a 7/8 given your goals.
