His stuff is electric
It really isn’t, he doesn’t have near the movement on any of his pitches that he had during that run his freshmen year. Can’t explain but it’s easily seen .

This. He is a great CLOSER. Why force him into a role that he isn't a good fit for when he was lights out as a closer?

He has thrown 90 pitches and still throwing mid 90s. His stamina isn’t the problem.
Yea you don’t grasp the concept of stamina from a pitching perspective

He is too emotionally unstable and inconsistent to be our ace. He can be a team Capt. and play a major factor in this season but not as a Friday night starter. We have a great offense and we need strikes and innings. Hess has good stuff but he is terrible at pitching let's be honest. Most posters on tigerdroppings could hit a 90 plus mph fastball but none of us could hit Greg maddux because he was a great pitcher. This may seem like a dense post but it's factual. Hess isn't comfortable and it needs to change because he can be very good.

It's not like people have not watched and filmed every pitch he throws. Hours of study on his technique and throwing motion etc. He just has to have control of his curve all and not get behind in the count. who doesn't love a 2-0, 3-1 flat fastball.

True, but these days he doesn't have the consistency to be a damn middle reliever. When he was a closer he could at least come and throw strikes.
He doesn't have stamina and now location is a problem, which leads to 70-80 pitches in the 4th with several walks.
He was barely locating pitches in the first inning much less the 4th.

This is pure gold, and the reason I still love The Rant.

Stamina doesn’t mean what you think it means. Who cares how many pitches he threw. How many were balls? How many walks/9 did he average?. When you’re tired you lose focus and can’t locate pitches. You lose mechanics

The best way to put it is he is absolutely terrible at game management. If you were to tell me my friday night guy threw 90 pitches and gave up 3 runs with 6 ks I'd expect at least 6 innings with a chance to go into the 7. Instead he's in the fricking 3-4 inning and lost almost 10MPH off his FB.
You can't be a Friday night guy and consistently only go 4-5 innings. You just cannot at a school like LSU expecting to win it all.
What that TX pitcher did tonight was what you want from a Friday night guy from a game management standpoint. Went deep into the game and saved their pen for the rest of the weekend when you don't have your best guy on the mound.

The first inning is generally the hardest for pitchers. He was still throwing hard though. He lost his velo quick

I don’t think he’s a starter. But I don’t think stamina is his problem.

Peterson got a lot better. I heard that Hill’s curve ball developed because of Dunn.
