MLB to officially implement a pitch clock

For spring training games. Will work the same as the minor league rule, batter has to be in the box 5 seconds before expiration. I say about time since the players were completely unwilling to pick up the pace on their own

How many violations have been given in the minors?

Only about 50 years overdue.
Baseball "purists", aka 50 year old nerds who never even played the game, have held back progress long enough.

I don't think a pitch clock is really going to speed up the game that much

If baseball is serious about picking up the pace of play, they'll regulate batters leaving the box. No walking around adjusting your gloves and taking practice swings between pitches.

Absolutely. I’m in favor of both.

A pitch clock, enforcing the stay in the box rule and limiting mound visits which they've already done should have an impact on pace of play and typically speed up an inning.
The only other thing that can be done is limiting mid inning pitching changes. A RHP starts an inning for 1 out, a LHP is brought into to fade 1 left handed hitter and then another RHP is brought in. That would certainly speed things up but I dont know that I'm in favor of something that limits in game strategy like that.

I think they’re more concerned about pace than shortening games. They want to reduce down time as much as possible IMO
Realistically this stuff is going to shorten a game like 10 minutes maybe I think

That's the rub. Games are taking forever due to all the pitching changes and bullpen specialization. They'll either have to radically change the rules or accept longer games. There's no easy answer.

It has no impact on the college game.

I feel like it cut down the average length of minor league games about 10 min on average.

That's really why they should, as someone mentioned earlier, focus on keeping the hitters in the box.
We need more guys like Max Scherzer pitching as soon as the guy steps in the box. They don't need 15 seconds to get ready and another 20 between every pitch.

The problem is any change to significantly speed up the pace of the game would completely change the game itself. Baseball is and was intended to be a methodical game.

Baseball may have been meant to be a methodical game but it wasn’t meant to have 5 pitchers throwing in a single game for a single team or having 4 outfielders and your SS playing second base.
I’m not sure how I feel about rule changes like this either but you can’t use how Baseball was “meant” to be played to argue against them

Maybe not, but all of those things are still playing under the same rules we've always had. Things I've seen proposed are like limiting the number of pitching changes per game or per inning. I've also seen things like adding the DH to the national league. If I had it my way, the DH would be eliminated entirely, but that's another topic and another can of worms.

Madison Bumgardner is about to throw a chair.

They’re exploiting the rules we’ve always had.
I would like to see a limit to the number of pitchers you can use in a game and I would like to see both the shift and the DH to die.
I doubt I get any of those things though.

Baseball also wasn’t meant to be played with “the three true outcomes”, ridiculous shifts with rovers in the outfield like it’s beer league softball and a million pitching changes because analytics says you need to matchup with every hitter. The way the game is played now in addition to the players taking forever with constant glove adjusting and practice swings if forcing MLBs hand because of all the dead time. It’s not the time of the game, it’s the pace.

how many pitchers are we talking about? Because at a certain point, you get into player health issues that no one would ever agree to.

agree on the DH but why the shift?
