Its because he has this delivery style that makes him come off as a know it all douche.
It usually goes down like this: "This is the "truth" about (insert subject matter) and anyone who thinks different is retarded."
If you agree with him, you'll think he's a genius but if you don't he'll just come off as a douche.
Edit: I personally find him funny but completely understand why some people are off put by him.

I've seen a few people mention Iliza Shlesinger in thread stalking about their favorite comedians. She is the female Dane Cook to me. Loud noises with voices and noises, lots of movement on stage and large gestures, very little actual funny content.

Joe’s early stand up was pretty good. Over the last decade, not so much.

I think most of his comedian friends are terrible comedians too (theo von, joey diaz namely)

It's not top tier but I definitely laughed at his specials. His bit about Noah's ark and the retarded child is hilarious.

Agreed.
I'm a regular JRE listener, but his standups are weak as hell. He's not really even doing comedy anymore, just riffing about observations.
