Some (very few) people can go back to drinking lightly, but the risk certainly isnt worth it.

Those are interesting questions and interesting points. I guess in my uncle's case he love the taste of a cold beer and the summer after cutting the yard. At the same time he had no desire to get back into that life and he could control it.

never had any trouble with the law. Just need to get right before I hit rock bottom. I’ve been there before. Not trying to get there again.

Good for your Uncle, but some alcoholics would have that one or two cold beers after mowing on Saturday afternoon, then drink the rest of the case. After waking up Sunday with a big head, they'd have a screwdriver or bloody Mary. Feeling a little better, they'd have another and feel good, so they'd drink the rest of the day until they went to bed. Who knows what might happen on Monday morning when it was time to get up and go to work.

That's why a lot of alcoholics don't drink anything at all.

The best high you will ever experience is when your body and mind are truly free from all intoxicants such as booze, cigarettes, drugs. It is truly amazing how good you can feel. I believe it is a gift from God.

During your stay, hopefully they will go in deep detail about what is occurring in your body that makes this so tough.

My ex was admitted into intensive in patient 3 times and not until we went to La Hacienda did I personally learn about the science in excruciating depth. The disease or condition - whatever anyone chooses to call it - is undeniably at the gene and chemical makeup level in the brain for some. If nothing else I had an understanding of why she didn't have that "will power" ability "normal" people may have when alcohol is present in the system. Or how to stop the next day. It was an amazingly intense study by staff scientists and doctors. Blown away. All that to say I understand what you struggle with and the chemistry behind it. I bet dozens here know what you are going through.

So, LEARN about the condition. The science. Why you can't slip even a little. Listen, learn and think about it way past just depression, the high or whatever.

Obviously, as an Ex she still struggles. I'm hoping you have better success and we hope for an update in a month or 3.

Mine is bad and I cringe even thinking about it. I just started a new job and flew out to Dallas to a training seminar. The first day we do a breakfast meet and greet and the owner of the company is there and we’re sitting at a big arse meeting/round table. Owner gets up and wants everyone to introduce themselves and say something about themselves. No biggie. Well he gets to me and I introduce myself and for some reason I get emotional introducing myself(choking back tears and shite) but I make it through. There was nothing to get emotional about, it was the first time and the last time as an adult this has happened. I literally have no idea why that happened. Still baffles me to this day. I don’t even know why I’m sharing this. I had to spend the next two days with these people training. I still feel like a pussy to this day.

Where have I read that crying isn't a sign of weakness -- it's actually a sign of strength.

Take care Whit and B & B.
