Anyone have experience doing it?

Tried it one time and one time only. By the time I got a hole chopped in the ice, I was too tired to put the boat in the water.

I live in northern Minnesota and go ice fishing regularly. What lake?

So where's good walleye fishing in northern MN? I was near Mille Lacs so that's were we always went.

Old pops was none too pleased when the tribal fishing rights reduced Mille Lacs to a two fish limit. After that we would actually go to Devil's Lake in North Dakota a couple of times a season because the limit was still six. Lots of northerns in Devil's Lake too.

Devils Lake is about as good as it gets. I always go to Lake of the Woods.

Buddy of mine in Michigan took me one time. We didn't have a shanty and I had to put my beer in a ice chest to keep it from freeing. I didn't speak to him for thee months. Make sure you have a shanty.

Not in Minnesota, but have done it here. There's usually lots of beer involved in ice fishing

My nephew in Eagle River had been dating a native Alaskan young lady for six or seven years, and they got married this year. He used to ice fish with her brother all the time, but now that they are a two income family, he's bought his own little shed for it.

Why wouldn't people drink hard liquor instead of beer? Who wants to deal with cold beer cans, and peeing every 20 minutes? I'd have whiskey, cigars, and a big bag of pork rinds.

I for one wouldn't last all day fishing if I did.

Bring you a couple bags of Taters....

Once the whole is cut start peeling the potatoes and cutting them in thin slices and throw them in the hole. It makes a light spot on bottom and you can see the fish a the depth you need to drop your bait.
