I find it pretty repulsive for pastors to get rich off of the people of their church. Would anyone here feel different if a pastor is rich because they write and sell a ton of books but don't take a salary from their church?

If his books are just an extension of his church, then my feelings don't change.

I think if a pastor is rich, then he is a hypocrite. They should donate 99% of their excess wealth.

What would Jesus think about Joel Osteen's house and car collection?

Rick Warren made millions upon millions from his book "purpose driven life."

THis is what Olsteen does. He hasn't taken a salary since 2005 but was taking a 200k salary before then.

I have less of a problem doing it this away, but it is still very hypocritical. They should live modestly and donate the rest imo. and 200k for that position is outragous.

If these people are giving because they feel like the value they get from being a part of that organization and getting that comfort aligns, great. If they're giving because they feel like they have to, or for some life or religious benefit, then that's a whole other thing. It's snake oil of the highest order.

But as the saying goes, "a fool and his money are soon parted."
