the point in tithing is to teach you to save and not overvalue money. i agree with the concept and think it is a good thing. even though i don't believe in the bible

Heard a priest years ago say “ for those who like to keep up with the Jones’ they put $20.00 dollars in the collection last week.”

Churches are a fricking scam. How can yall hate on these big churches for playing the system? Don't get pissed at them for doing it better than your small puny church.

Wait, so they teach you to not overvalue money by telling you to give it to them (because they clearly value it?)

Pretty good example of man's poor understanding and communication of the actual teaching of Jesus, thus doing more harm than good in ever reaching you with the true gospel because all you choose to focus on now is how wrong a human being is rather than seeking the true teaching of the bible in context for yourself.
Eta-I don't intend to imply that you're dumb/a bad person/anything necessarily negative...its just how humans operate. Its a flaw in our kind.

Sorry, you confused me with that sentence. Are you saying that he doesn't understand and communicate the teachings of Jesus, or that I don't?
As an aside, you talk about how wrong/flawed humans are, but humans are the ones who created and evangelize this thing you're so committed to. So it's a bit of a self defeating statement.

What's the proper context?

Well, technically they created the context itself AND they're the ones who bastardize it to advance their own agendas...financial or otherwise.

Maybe just read it rather than let bad facebook memes and Pastors like this, or any other kind, tell you what it says...?

Warren has been married to Kay Warren since June 21, 1975. They have three adult children and four grandchildren. He considers Billy Graham, Peter Drucker, and his own father to be among his mentors.
Because of the success of his book sales, in 2005 Warren returned his 25 years of salary to the church and discontinued taking a salary. He says he and his wife became "reverse tithers," giving away 90% of their income and living off 10%.

I have.
I'm just asking you to defend your position.
What's the proper context?

You want me to tell you the entire context of the bible?
My point is that man continually takes verses out of the historical context of their stories and uses them to justify his own selfish desires. Do you disagree with that?

Pastors scam people. Priests rape boys. What's new here?
Posted on 12/12/18 at 4:20 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
Until you realize that churches are exempt from paying taxes. Megachurches are horrible organizations.

the bible is full of contradiction and hypocrisy. it is nothing more than a mirror of who we are as people.
there is no god but that which we do not understand.
cave man attributed lightning to god, we now know better. now god is the universe or the cosmos or even the depths of the ocean.
think about it, if you knew everything, you would essentially be "god."
there is no literal jesus christ, he's an archetype that was recycled and updated, a progressive figure to try and bring us out of the dark.
the bible is memes of human nature compiled into one. so it is extremely valuable, and full of truisms, but it's not actually historically true.
that is the proper context of the bible
