Fun fact about the P-40 used by the AVG in China - they had limited aircraft and flew many missions a day. When they returned to their base to rearm and refuel, the ground crew would repaint the prop spinner a different color. The Japanese never really knew how many planes or squadrons they had and overestimated the number of planes they actually had. The ground crew would strip the paint off the spinners at night.
