Budget cuts. Flag Staff position reduced part-time salary.

It has gotten to the point that flag spends at much time at half mast as it does at full mast.
. I’ve observed the same thing. It can’t be how our country intended to use the flag.

Still a terrible tragedy regardless.

I mean, on a wide level he’s generally right. If lowered for every tragedy it’ll never be raised.

I’m not sure I’m the dude that wants to take on that fight but it’s a reasonable point

The President ordered the flag be flown at half mast at the White House in memory of the 12 people killed in Cali this week.

First time I noticed this was when MLK's wife died and Clinton ordered them lowered. It has become a joke IMO.

She died in 2006. Which Clinton offered this?

What I find interesting is that when McCain died, you know a war hero, people had to almost riot to get the flag lowered.

We’ve had a lot reasons to lower the flag lately. It’s sad but it’s true and every time it’s lowered it’s been for a good reason.

I just watched the news last night and a man with his 5 year old son and wife were sitting at a cafe in Seattle at the Space Needle and he decided he was going to stab his wife to death in front of their 5 year old son and a shite ton of tourist.

Then he tried to get the police to shoot him in a standoff. Luckily they tazed him and he will be held accountable

But now this kid is fricked for the rest of his life and the cycle will probably continue.

We really need to do something about the mental health of this country. It’s getting OOC

I agree with Ponchy. Just the fact that we don't know why it's lowered tells you that it has lost the meaning it was intended for.

You know, to the poster who said that it has been lowered so much the gesture loses its meaning, I have to agree. I can remember looking at a lowered flag and knowing instantly why it was down. I even wondered if it was some Democrat whose feelings were hurt by something Trump said. Sad!

One of the big take-aways from this thread is that many OT posters live under a rock.

I agree with you in regards to mental health

But the flag at half mast isn’t for this purpose, now had the president, vp, Mattis, etc passed away, or Benghazi attack, 9/11, etc.
