re: Sausage in seafood gumbo?

In Catholic South Louisiana meatless Fridays have been a long standing tradition, even after the Church mostly lifted the rule (to my dismay). So gumbo was seafood gumbo sans sausage was served on Fridays in many homes, including mine. There is no reason you can't put sausage in seafood gumbo if you like, but to me, eating a dish in a traditional manner connects me in some small way to the past.
