However I am a sucker for any movie John Wayne was in where he shared billing with Maureen O'Hara
She was in the third installment of John Ford's cavalry "trilogy" - Rio Grande, although that's probably the "worst" of the three. John Ford can be credited for this screen "marriage" (in fact, each of them referred to the other as "film" husband or wife) and directed the first 3 of the 5 films in which they were paired - Rio Grande, Quiet Man (which Ford wanted to make first), and The Wings of Eagles.
McClintock! was actually directed by Victor McLaglen's son and Big Jake was the final directorial effort by George Sherman.

Eh. The original is overrated. The child actor who played Mattie Ross was so horrible it takes away from the movie. The new version, Hailee Steinfield actually does an excellent job.

I watch The Searchers anytime it is on tv and also
Winchester '73, old black and white with James Stewart.
Rock, Young Bull, Hudson and Tony Curtis with minor roles.
Those two are my favorites with High Noon a runner up.

She loved the Duke. Her testimony before Congress
for the President of the United States to strike a commemorative gold medal in John Wayne's honor.
quote:
Her eyes were filled with tears as she began her testimony of fond memories of her friend. “I have known John Wayne for 39 years, and in those 39 years I have called him my dearest friend?—?my best friend?...?” O’Hara said. It was an emotionally gripping moment, but she continued.
“To the people of the world, John Wayne is not just an actor?—?and a very fine actor?—?John Wayne is the United States of America.”

Kim Darby wasn't horrible...and she wasn't a child. She was 20-something like...but she played an impetuous, impatient, naive teenager very well.
Hailee was a child who acted like an adult...she was a little too cool for school and wise beyond her years.
Darby was just cluelessly out for revenge while Hailee acted like she was Liam Neeson in Taken - why she needed mush-mouth and rounders to go along with her expertise is beyond me.

Meh. I LOVE the Coen Brothers - that's no secret. But that is their worst film, by a mile. I still give it a solid C+, but that new girl is the main thing pulling the grade down.
I didn't think Darby was exceptional in the original, but she wasn't dragging it down quite as badly.
The Coens also made some cinematography and other choices that turned me off as well, so the blame doesn't fall solely on Steinfeld - just mostly.

Once Upon a Time in the West. No doubt!
Best opening sequence of any film ever.
2. The Outlaw Josie Wales
3. Good the Bad and the Ugly
4. Magnificent Seven (original)
5. Wild Bunch

The Professionals, 1966. Burt Lancaster, Jack Palance, Woody Strode, and the baddest bad-arse of them all, Lee Marvin.

My 2 absolutely favorite westerns are relatively new- unforgiven and assasination of Jesse James.
My 2 favorite older westerns are Winchester 73 and how the west was won.
