I realize there have been several other of these types of posts, so I'll try to not overlap with what's already on the board...
My brother, two of my college friends, and I are coming in from all around the country for the Alabama game and we are fkn PUMPED. We try to hit a marquee game a couple times a year and a LSU-Bama night game at TS has always been on the bucket list. Tickets already in hand (Section 410 - hopefully not too many bama fans around us?), hotel booked, etc.
Two questions:
1. We're staying at a hotel out by I-10/Essen - a little further out than we wanted to be but we booked late. We are in our early 30s and plan to tailgate (read: drink) all day, so driving is out. The Uber/Lyft stories sound horrible - is it really that bad? I know it won't be as much of a hassle getting to campus early in the morning but any tips on where we should walk after the game ends to improve the likelihood of not waiting for hours? I don't really care about the surge prices, we'll split the cost 4 ways so it won't be a total kick in the D.
2. My brother and I grew up in Lexington and... it's nice to have a real football team. I was at Commonwealth for the bluegrass miracle (brutal) and the 3OT win in 07 (it all worked out OK for you guys.) Of course our biggest game of the year (Georgia) is the same day we'll be in BR, prob the 2:30 CBS game. Do a lot of the campus-area tailgates have TVs where we'll be able to share some bourbon in exchange for a seat by the screen? Or will we have to head out to the RV lot or one of the bars? My preference would be to avoid the bars if possible.
Thanks to everyone who has posted recommendations on other threads like this, it has been very helpful. If you see some random UK fans wandering around on gameday, give us a shout. Hope to watch a big win for you guys. Geaux Tigers

you did everything possible in your post to come across as a decent fan. I'm not much of a tail-gator so hopefully after the idiot brigade gets all of their stupidity out of the way someone can help you.
As far as getting to see in all likelihood the Georgia-UK game at 2:30 that shouldn't be much of a problem. All bars near campus as well as the student union will show it as well as many tailgating throughout the area.

So maybe this will be your one serious answer.....
There will be PLENTY of people with TVs set up. General tailgating and RV lots. The Chimes is a restaurant on the North Side of Campus that will have the game on, and Walk On's is across the street from Alex Box Stadium that will have the game on.
Just wear some Kentucky gear, have a rolling ice chest (or 2/3) packed with liquid treats, and walk around and mingle with the tailgaters with TV's set up, like I said, there will be plenty.
If you really wanna impress - get out early with a crap load of chicken mini biscuits from chick-fil-a to feed to the cooks starting early for the tailgates. Easy way to make friends.

I'm a longtime LSU fan and family has had season ticket my entire life. I've been lucky to take some groups of friends who either played football at or attended Big 12 universities. Every single one of them has left saying something along the lines of, "wow, there is nothing like that experience". My goal was always to let them soak in the whole weekend.
I've stayed exactly where you have if you're at the Drury or the Towne Place. Friday night I would say try to grab dinner somewhere like Parrains or Sammy's. Everywhere will be packed, but both are awesome places IMO as someone from outside the area. From there, we usually go to Ivar's or somewhere like Walk Ons. Ivar's is somewhere I've gone with my dad since I was a kid. The old owner, Pat, sold and it's turned into a pretty good older college/recent grad scene to my knowledge on Friday night. Uber or Lyft will be fine. I would suggest Friday and Saturday. If you want to see the college scene go to Fred's just to check it out. I'm 27, so a getting aged out even for a game weekend, but that place always blew my friends away. $10 all you can drink til like 10pm or something.
Saturday, I'd try to get on campus between noon-2pm for that game. It's gonna be a madhouse so know you'll have to walk. I'd suggest Chimes for pregame food and drinks. From there, make sure to check out the parade grounds. I used to always recommend this cause of the frat parties, it's a sight worth seeing, but that won't be the case this year. Go through the quad, go down by the Indian mounds, go see Mike the Tiger. Might be worth going on the South Side of the stadium and checking out what they are doing. My suggestion, find a tailgate with a good group of people and don't be afraid to introduce yourself. Tell them your story. Be friendly. Offer to pay and watch what happens. People will take care of you.
Game atmosphere wise, watch the team walk down the hill, get into the stadium 20 minutes early or so. Pace yourself, haha, I've had friends barely make it in and had to rally to make it through the 1st quarter. Post game, walk back to Chimes or Barcadia and wait it out for an hour or two. It will be late, but killing time drinking is better than killing time in traffic. Enjoy. Best place in the world.

Band comes down two hours before the game. It's a fun time, I highly recommend it. (Get there earlier for a decent spot.) Go visit Mike the Tiger's cage before hand.
Start out at walk-ons and work your way through the tailgates. You'll have a blast.
After the game there are still some tailgates going on late. Find a nice one to hang out and talk football after the game for a few hours. It takes a 1 1/2 hrs to 2 hrs for traffic to die down to where you can get an Uber without much difficulty.
Good luck!

Don’t forget to visit Coates Hall.

Many tailgates will have that game on. It won’t be hard to find it.

For big games such as Bama, we tailgate post game till the crowd/traffic dies down. We’ll have a tv or two and plenty of food. We’re on Stadium east of highland. Not sure where yet bc it’s first come first serve on spots. If you’re out that way, you’re more than welcome to hang.

Prepare for a spectacle like you have never experienced. Ever.

Even though you're not an LSU fan, yell your arse off in the stadium. We need that place rocking like never before.

Lots of good advice above, so here is one bit that you might try if you do not want to hang out at a bar (Chimes, Barcadia) after the game.
Continue north on Highland Rd. for about 4 or 5 blocks to Roosevelt. There is a convenience store/gas station on the southeast corner of that intersection. To your right onto E Roosevelt (one block away) is Thomas Delpit Dr. Go that one block and do your uber/lyft request. Delpit should be open coming in from the north and it is an easy access to the general area for a driver.
Now here is the important part. This is a pretty tough area, so do not hang around at the corner of Delpit and Roosevelt. Walk back the one block to Highland and Roosevelt and watch for the driver and try to time it when your app says he is one minute away. Stay with your friends the whole time just to be safe (I'm not joking).
Delpit is an excellent way to go north and get to I-10 east and back to your hotel.
Hope you have a great time at the Game.
