McCain served his country with honor and therefore deserves respect for it at the highest level.
However, as a politician, that’s presents a different perspective on judging his qualities as a leader.
Once he chose Sarah Palin as his VP running mate, that pretty much sealed the deal for me on his ineptness as a political leader. Inexplicable decision from a man running for President.

You may venerate John McCain, if you wish. You may praise him as one of the USA's greatest military figures, if you wish. You may laud his long service as a US Senator, if you wish. But don't expect me to join you.
Excellent post. I've never said McCain was an outstanding solider. But he went and sacrificed and suffered at a time when many skirted their obligation at every turn. Folks forget weren't around or simply dont comprehend the political climate of that time. This is/was was one of my main objections to Clinton when he ran (and Bush II and Trump.)
Much of my opinion on the matter was shaped by watching my favorite Uncle, who was a combat marine in Vietnam, continue to suffer and be haunted by his time there. He contracted malaria, and it almost killed him while he was in country and he still suffers from relapses. And this is not to mention the treatment he got by those in his own country when he returned.
Distinguished service or not, at least he went.

And Steve Bartman caused the Cubs to lose the 2003 NLCS too, huh? If you dumbasses want to encapsulate McCain's life with the video of his thumb down vote on Obamacare, I hope you don't have a problem with me doing that with Trumnp's video mocking the handicapped. Funny how nobody remembers McCain voting YES to repeal and replace the ACA while 9 other Republican senators voted not to.

He fought for us. That's admirable. But a "badass" picture isn't gonna do it for me when you're such a fool that you fall for globalist politics and aren't aware of it.... I can't imagine he understands that he IS pushing a globalist agenda by proxy, because then I would join the camp that hates him. I will give him, at least, the benefit of the doubt that he's just old and the game passed him by longggggg ago.

Yes, but, what choice did he have? He completed flight school in 1960. He was a naval officer and academy grad at that time. He could hardly desert the Navy and head to Canada when Vietnam started. Sure, he went to Vietnam and he served. But, let's not compare him to the 18 year old conscript taken from his parents and shipped off to a jungle battlefield assaulting NVA fortified bunkers.
McCain flew his missions. His plane was hit. He bungled the ejection procedure and this caused his arms to be broken. His life took a hard and tragic turn then until he returned to the USA. But his own lack of skill with regard to properly executing the ejection procedure directly caused his broken arms.

Did he sell the US out to save himself in captivity and claim to be a war hero when he got home? Many around him then say yes. I believe them. He is a traitor.

When you sign up for military service you realize that at any moment you could be called on to defend our country. His choice was made long before he was called. That's heroic in any context and extends to all of those that volunteer.

He spent his whole life trying to get American kids killed in foreign lands a 1000 miles from home.
He dumped his first wife crippled from disease for a younger more richer broad.

I think for the most part you can respect McCain as you do other service members. However, there are comments about him being an admirals son, akin to being a lawyer in your daddy's law firm and I got the impression he was a bit of a brat. Then reading about the fire on the carrier and how his immaturity played a key role was disheartening to say the least, where the victims were enlisted, drafted servicemen.
All that I ever heard about him in Hanoi was positive as I can't fault any of those men in the Hilton that was pure hell.
Fast forward to his political career in the past few years and its impossible not to call him a RINO and an obstructionist.

It wasn’t that long ago libs hated McCain’s guts when he was running for president against obama. His “country first” slogan was labeled a racist dog whistle. Just google McCain racist and see all the books and articles memory holed from 2008 calling him a racists and attacking his daughter for being ‘indecent’.

This question ain't aimed at me.
I've never liked McCain. But repubs had no problem with McCain's warmongering before he took up a stance against Trump.

They hate him because he is not cum-drunk from the 24/7 DJT fellate fest like they are. And the irony is he has more class and courage in any one cancer cell than DJT and/or his cum-drunk minions.
Those involved in the 24/7 hate-fest of DJT and those involved in the 24/7 fellate- fest are the same individuals .... too lazy or dumb or weak to make their own rational decisions. JM is in neither of those 2 groups, but in the group that can look at each individual issue and make a non-emotive decision or non-groupthink decision based on a personal or political value system. Group-thought sycophants detest free thinkers when they don’t fall in line with the boss.
