Doing a hilly 13 miles in the rain on Saturday and doing the old Mercedes Half in the rain on Sunday. Because of this I actually got a 2 day rest this week during the middle of training it's so rare I'm excited about it! Will get 41.2 miles for the week, 42 miles next week, then 45 miles in 2 weeks.
Then I get a "pull back" week, and have to do a "time trial" half to check in on my fitness... then, my first 50 mile week ever

that sounds like a legit week dude! Thats a hell of a back to back with your build up id imagine you wont notice much difference hitting 50.
I keep looking for a tuneup race around here but not having any luck other than 5k's. Probably just going to do a few long run workouts to make up for it.

Took Tuesday off because I had a little nagging IT band pain after my 10 miles on Sunday. Ran a short workout tonight and I'm already dreading the heat coming back. It was only mid 60s but I can feel the difference after a winter of running in nice weather

Unfortunately the guy in charge of the Sunday 13 miles postponed the run due to weather tomorrow. So I ran 17 miles this afternoon and will run 6 - 8 miles tomorrow morning to get to my 40 miles. The 17 miles really didn't feel great, but it was also 1,100 ft of elevation gain, so that might have affected my physical and mental state by the end.
ETA: also my first 15+ mile (was actually my first 13+) long run of this training session :letsgo:

Training schedule got screwed up this week thanks to parent teacher conferences(stuck at work from 7:30-7). No true long run but got a good 4 mile race in this afternoon. 21:57 and a 2nd place finish. Got worked and left by this Kenyan dude in the 2nd mile

I just posted on the MSB...Kelvin Kiptum and his coach both passed away in a car accident in Kenya. That's a huge loss to the running world.

I saw. I’m actually legitimately sad over this. No words

I'm devastated... as someone who just started running he was the person to watch, the next great thing. He was a lot more arrogant and not as personable as Kipchoge, but he was still a great guy and this is a huge loss for the community.
Sad too, cause he was legitimately going to be the first to break 2:00

Seems like it may be possible he fell asleep at the wheel.
saw some posts on letsrun that his management isnt great, often time requiring him to go to sponsor meetings on sunday after hard training weeks. With him doing rotterdam on april 14 he likely was starting to dip into 100+ mile weeks in his cycle. It makes sense, in my mind, that he could have been traveling from/to eldoret after a day of meetings and just passed out on an already dangerous stretch of road.

So a quick update... I attempted a sub-6 minute mile yesterday for the first time... and kinda fell apart 6:07, was a PR, but of course I'm disappointed. Next week I'll try it again, but this time in shoes that don't have 330 miles on them, I probably should have thought about the milage on my shoes before trying for a sub-6 mile
On a cool note: it appears almost everyone in my running circle has their "interval training" on Tuesday, my feed was filled with Intervals across the board, nothing like seeing everyone else running way faster than you to get you motivated to get better. Even if everyone single one of them have been running at least 10 more years than you

Hell yea! That’s awesome man. I’d bet you’ll get it this next time. How fast did you open up? With the mile I always tried to make sure my lap splits we’re pyramid-y in nature. So if I was targeting 4:40, let’s say, I would open up at like :66-:68. Then try to settle in at :72 or so the next two laps then through down lap 4 with a big surge at the 200. So for you maybe targeting :86 or so lap 1 then settling in at :92 the next two laps then trying to throw down the last one will get you in a good spot to clear that hurdle.
I have a guy I coach against here in town I’m buddies with that I follow on strava. He’s a hell of a runner (14 low 5k kind of guy) and it never fails when I post a workout I’m happy with he’ll post one that just completely shits all over me. Helps to keep me grounded
I’m in the middle of my first 60 week of the cycle. 27.5 down so far this week. 9 Monday, 8.5 yesterday (screwed up my route), 10 today. Gonna hit 6 x mile tomorrow.

yea it was rare my plan actually played out. especially in college where i'd have to open the first 300 of the 15 in :45 just to hold on. I got to where I really hated anything less than 5k.

Hey I don't want to spam that thread anymore... but I figured those of you that have been in the thread would have picked up on my "paces" and realized I don't really do the 80/20 much lol. When I'm trying to get faster I pick a plan that is faster than my current PR.
My last marathon was 3:45 so I'm doing a 3:30 plan.
Because of this I do way more "over zone 2" than most of those plans would put me at.
I also audible a lot, a whole lot, like today should have been 4 miles tempo... I just set a PR in the 10k

Feel good about my repeats today.
5:37,5:37,5:35,5:33,5:28,5:27
Schedule calls for ten mile tempo Saturday but it’s also supposed to be 22 degrees in the morning so we’ll see

It looks like you were right about Kiptum falling asleep: LINK
Falling asleep at the wheel, accidentally hitting the gas instead of the brake. Incredibly tragic.
quote:
“She told us that she saw the vehicle veering off and immediately shouted at him to return back to the road.
“After shouting, the vehicle accelerated far off the road, landing in the ditch before hitting a wall. That was the last thing she remembers,” the source said.
quote:
She also told investigators that Kiptum might have dozed off at the time of the accident.

Damn that’s tough. Out of some of the nonsense I’ve seen about people being after him or whatever I think this is the better outcome, if there is such a thing.

What was your rest/ recovery jog between reps Pedro?
Posted on 2/16/24 at 1:06 pm to AmIDonut
Took 2 minutes standing/walking.

5 warmup
8 Tempo @ 6:01 average
4 cooldown
Really wanted 10 tempo but holy frick it’s hard doing that in 17 degree weather (got colder than forecasted last night)
