Negative
Sox have several Birds
Ellsbury is a 5th OF that the Sox would pay 10 mill a year for.
Abreu is heating up after biggest slump of his career.
Legit prospects
Amazing how Yankees cut these deals though for spare parts.

Hamels has been good on the road but frick, more assets for pitching after the Q & Chatwood deals looks bad for this Front office

They have several 25 year olds with a career ~.800 OPS making half a mil a year?

Hamels to Cubs pending physical. Let’s see what he’s got left.

Do you mean to be 26 year old with OPS in the high 700s, inflated by production from 2016, with a career batting average of .228 and a 31% strikeout rate?
Yes, 2 of them in particular. They aren't hard to find.

Or
Even if Bird/A Ball pitcher was a fair deal for Abreu, the Yankees need to throw in a top 50 prospect for the $20 million in salary the deal requires the Sox to pick up.

I'm hoping we don't trade Lange, but we definitely need another solid arm

It doesn't matter how good Torres becomes, I would do the Chapman trade 100 times out of 100.

Gettin DeGrom would be a luxury but at what cost? I think the Cubs really like their team heading into the stretch. If KB, Yu, Morrow all come back to form, and the possibility of Smyly making an impact, then I don’t really see a need to make a move for a frontline guy that would cost at least an everyday player & prospects.

Bruh, they have 1 player on their team with an OPS higher than Bird if they have several Birds on deck why aren’t they playing them?

Bird has a higher OPS and WAR than Abreu despite being hurt for half the season.

And he’s also 25 and didn’t even play in 2016

I’m not even a Bird fan and I definitely don’t blame anybody for not wanting him, but to act like guys with a 109 OPS+ are a dime a dozen is hilarious.

Which prospects did cubs give up for Hamels? How much of that $23mil a year contract are they paying for him. I’m not really excited about a guy a few years past his prime with a mediocre whip and era.
