Plus there is a confirmed 5 DLC characters as well which will all be released within a year of it's release.
The game has been confirmed to have been a tweaked port of the Wii-U version of the game: LINK
The rumors out these is that there will be 8 entirely new characters (I don't think Daisy counts) which means we have 6 more to go. There are so-called "leaks" that suggest that Simon Belmont will be playable. Also rumors of a Minecraft stage: LINK

Update: It has been pointed out to me that the term "game system" in Japanese may not necessarily refer to the assets of the game. Rather, Masahiro Sakurai could've been considering if the Super Smash Bros. series should take a completely different direction rather than following the rules that it has been since Super Smash Bros. 64. This doesn't really do much for the "port vs. new game" debate, so this article has been edited accordingly.

Olimar makes stamina battles incredibly easy! Just run a lot and throw your pikmin at the enemies. They do tons of damage and you can just focus on staying alive. Its allowed me to beat all the tough stamina fights

So two months in, what is everyone’s thoughts? IMO, this game is a god send for travelers. Makes a flight pass by quickly.
Some nitpicks on World of Light. Marx and Galleom should have never been bosses. Replace them with Ultra Necrozma (Pokémon) and Dr Robotnik (Sonic) respectively. Marx is easy as shite to beat, and Kirby doesn’t deserve a boss rep anyway. Replace with Ultra Necrozma as the boss in the Dark Realm. And while Galleom is a boss from brawl, just give Robotnik this robot as a boss that is slightly larger and give it roughly the same moves.
Also Dark Samus should have had her own unique moveset.

Apparently Rex was planned to be in the game with Pyra and Mythra switching between and were going to be Ice Climber like characters, but it turned out it became so complex it started crashing the game in 8 player Smash. So they scrapped Rex and just did Pyra and Mythra.
