Thank you. Your response made the most sense of any I have seen so far and I will acquiesce to most of that. No doubt circumstances have changed. I'm just trying to illustrate that it isn't fair or normal to cheat a guy because of an injury, especially a freak one. The OP is exactly about how much less you can pay for the guy now. Its kind of F'd up. I don't get how people are rooting for him or are fans of his, but at the same time want to get over on him or rip him off. Its weird.

lolwat

Business isn't fair and no one is cheating anyone. Injuries are a part of sports, and injuries change players. Until a contract is signed, either party can back up and change the parameters.

Are you suggesting that if a team said during a season "Hey we want you back next year and are willing to do whatever it takes" and then that player has a career ending injury...the team should still pay him?

Of course not, it is absurd.

We are fans of the team. If Boogie left I wouldn't spend another second thinking about him.

We want the team to get the best deal possible for the TEAM. There are actual, real, long-lasting implications on how much we pay players this offseason due to the LuxTax/Repeater tax.

No one wants to rip him off, but if the Pels pay more than market value for him, they are ripping themselves off. I think most people think that a 2+1 at around 70-80 mil is fair for both sides. If he's healthy, he can opt out after two seasons and actually sign a max contract that is worth more than the max that he could have signed this offseason.

One other factor in this is the lesson of Asik. After the season it started coming out in the local media that the Asik contract very nearly cost Demps his job. It sounds like if he hadn't turned Asik into Mirotic, even if the Pels made the playoffs we could be looking at Demps fired and Gentry still around.

I doubt Demps wants to endanger his job security again by over-committing to Cousins. In this case, as it was with Asik, length is probably a much bigger issue than the amount each year.
