There's a docuseries on HULU that follows a bunch of professional mascots. It gives a pretty good behind the scenes look on what all it takes to be a mascot. It's a ton more physical than being a cheerleader, and like others have mentioned, the best and highest paid mascots come up with all their stunts, skits, etc... And if they don't deliver @ engaging the crowd they're gone, putting a premium on experience and abilities.

Unlike cheerleaders where there's 20-30 girls who are made out to be an interchangeable symbol and there's a huge supply of competent ones trying out each year vs a high quality mascot performer.
