Somewhat new to the game as well, maybe 3 or 4 months since I bought it and started playing. Glad I'm not the only one late to the party

I dont know if this was for everyone, but there was definitely a part where
1. I had only unlocked about 4 or 5 towers
2. didnt really have any direction or quests outstanding pointing me in any 1 direction
3. I was still a bit too underpowered to push through to the next region

there's this small window where I got just frustrated and lost. Once you just suck it up, with some luck the rest of the story just flows, dont be surprised when you find yourself there.

the rain sucks something awful and the frequency it rains will make you scream

Not a fan of the durability crap either, it takes away from the gameplay. It wouldnt be so annoying if there were more single hand weapons. But my inventory always seems overstocked with really cool powerful double handed weapons.

I had a similar thought to this recently. I'm sure there are a good amount of single handed weapons, but I just happened to be overloaded with double handed ones at the time. I just found the Colosseum place with monsters on every level with a Lynel at the bottom. There were some great weapons (for my time in the game I guess), but most of them were double handed swords from the moblins. I'm too slow fighting with the two handed weapons.

As for the rain, I would like if there was different weather in different areas. I know I could go find a fire under some cover to sit out the rain, but it would be cool to be able to decide to fast travel to some plains to go take care of business there while it rained.

ETA: I guess now that I thought more on this, my wish might actually be the case in the game. I guess you could fast travel to Gerudo at any time to get out of the rain.
