's really not up for debate that many years ago he spoke at what many would consider a "racist" group and also voted against MLK day on multiple occasions. However, I'd hope the primary issue is that it's pathetic and embarrassing to try and use this as an opportunity to make a statement against him. I'm no fan of Scalise but if I were graduating this year I would be pretty thrilled to hear him speak. Commencement speakers don't generally stand up and lecture graduating classes on politics. I'd imagine he has a lot of valuable, interesting things to say to people going out into the world, particularly people entering the legal or political world. And he's been through quite a bit lately and has had some beyond-fascinating life experiences. I can't help but wonder when people will stop trying to shut down anything or anyone they don't 100% agree with. It's a childish and counter-productive move. Just let him talk, take from it what you want and move on with your life. It's so exhausting the way everyone now has to be labeled exclusively by their political affiliation. frick.

I do agree

Pretty much, never felt like posting anything, some good threads out there, but this isn’t one of them.

Aren't finals soon? Bickering at each other about socio-political bullshite in the library in late April while people are cramming sounds like a good way to endear yourself to your future colleagues and opponents

I have been speaking with students in person, but if you would like to meet at Chimes and discuss this over lunch, I would be more than willing to join you. As I have said repeatedly in this thread, I support their right to do this, but I fundamentally disagree with both their aims and their reasons for them. Tell me the time, and I will be more than happy to meet with any and all of my fellow students who want to speak their minds. I have never been shy about speaking my mind in class, even when I know my opinions are likely to make some feel less of me as a result.

Name the time and I will meet you, and anyone else out front. I love hearing views I don’t agree with because they help to better inform my own views and expose me to different life experiences and guiding philosophies.

I’m guessing that is a pretty narrowly held view at LSU.

Really?

Yes really:

He was invited to speak to a neighborhood group whose president happened to be Kenny Knight who was a David Duke advisor. Immediately after the neighborhood meeting, Knight was holding a conference at the then Sheraton (now Copeland Tower) hotel for the European-American Unity and Rights Organization. Scalise left immediately after speaking to the neighborhood group which had no connection to the EURO Conference other than Kenny Knight heading both up.

Like I said, I sure hope you aren't a 3L at PMH. You are ignorant and steadfast in that ignorance.
