Scalise may be a nice enough guy. But he isn't exactly a person of remarkable accomplishment in life or of exemplary intellect.

ETA: just looked through the names; not a single one of the named people are high-performing law students.

False. I saw a handful that are order of the coif and a couple that won national championships in trial ad/moot court competitons. There are some very intelligent and respected students on that list as well as some dear friends of mine.

But but but Todd Graves wants more dead children!!

Raising Cane's is catching heat for its policy allowing customers, in states where legal, to openly carry firearms in its restaurants.

A national group advocating for what it describes as "common sense" guns laws is demanding Raising Cane's founder Todd Graves make public the fast-food restaurant's safety plans in the event of a firearm incident. The protest comes a day after a pro-gun advocate, who open carried a weapon at a Texas Raising Cane's, released a social media threat against Texas state legislators.

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America was already scheduled to begin a social media campaign urging the Baton Rouge-born fast-food chain to reverse its position and ban firearms at all of its locations. However, those plans were expedited after Kory Watkins, head of a community pro-open carry group, posted a video on Facebook "demanding (Texas state legislators) give us our (gun) rights back, or it's punishable by death."

The Moms Demand Action group, which re-posted the video, interpreted the statement as threatening "Texas legislators with death." Members of the group used the video to turn its attention to Raising Cane's because Watkins had previously posted photographs of himself, sporting a rifle, in a Texas Cane's restaurant.

"Moms are asking Raising Cane's: do you stand with gun extremists, like Kory Watkins, who threatened the lives of Texans, or do you stand with moms and families who deserve a comfortable environment to enjoy a meal together," asked Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts.

Raising Cane's spokesman Ladd Biro, reached by phone, was unable to provide an immediate comment, but added a statement would be forthcoming. On Feb. 3, the company posted on its Facebook page:

"At Raising Cane's, our ONE LOVE is quality chicken finger meals. We are passionate about quality, we are committed to our customers and crew, and we support our communities. It's what we do. What we don't do is get involved in political debates. We recognize that our customers and our crew have different political views and we respect those differences. We are chicken finger experts, not politicians. Please understand that we have the right to refrain from political debates on our own social media pages."

The group, which has successfully convinced numerous restaurant franchises to prohibit firearms, is also asking Raising Cane's to reveal how it prioritizes customer and employee safety in case of a gun emergency.

Raising Cane's, which operates more than 200 restaurants in 18 states, prohibits firearms at its stories in Arizona, Nebraska, Nevada and Oklahoma--all states allowing open carry.

"However the chain has no specific policy when it comes to prohibiting open cary at its restaurant in other states, saying the company follows state and local laws," said Watts.

Louisiana is a traditional open-carry state, although some cities prohibit open carry by local ordinance and guns hadn't always been allowed in restaurants serving alcohol. But last May, Gov. Bobby Jindal signed legislation into law allowing concealed-carry permit holders to carry guns in restaurants that serve alcohol.

Moms Demand Action previously worked with Panera Bread, Target, Starbucks, Chipotle, Sonic, Jack in the Box and Chili's to prohibit firearms.

Don't kid yourself, you know this is what they would have said.

Did he not twice vote against the Martin Luther King holiday in Louisiana? Did he not speak at a white supremacist rally? Did he not speak at an anti-gay forum? I know this will get downloaded into oblivion. But I also know that he did all three of these.

Even if you do not recognize that many do not hold Scalise in high esteem ( I don't ), surely you will agree that he is a controversial figure. He IS a politician. And I think it better on the whole if Commencement Speakers are not politicians.

Majority of politicians are lawyers. What half assed world are you living in?

How many were shot by liberals simply because they had a different political ideology. You're a clown.

As a queer gender-fluid dino-kin, I believe in absolute tolerance! I feel excluded and scared that LSU would condone a speaker who supports Big Oil. The drilling for oil is a desecration of the final resting place of my dinosaur ancestors who were all gay. #oilismurder #toleranceforallideals

every generation of college students is like this, young, idealistic, a little delusional perhaps, I think it was even more dramatic when I was at LSU because it was the tail end of the VN war, give these young , progressive thinking, liberal appearing, aspiring barristers about ten years and they'll be the staunchest, suit and power tie wearing, NRA card carrying, I don't want my kids to go to school with those peole, conservatives in the community
