What was the hurry? Why couldn't they talk for a while? He wasn't brandishing the firearm why not try diplomacy Rambo? Why rush the guy threatening to shoot him in the head the entire time.
I'm still waiting to see the tipping point in the video. Don't fricking tell me it is when the cop claims he reached for his gun. If yall believed the government this much there would be no need for the 2nd amendment

They were called in because he (a felon) threatened somebody with a gun. You don't talk that out. You arrest him on the spot, check for any weapons, and then talk all you want.

911 was called because he was brandishing the firearm.
I don't think he deserved to die either, but this narrative that Sterling has no blame in this is irritating. If Sterling would have followed the law, none of this would have happened. If he would have complied with the officer's commands, none of this would have happened. Sterling had ample chances to give up and didn't. I don't blame the cop. At the end of the day all he wants to do is go home to his family.
This also isn't the first time something like this occurred with Sterling. In 2009 the exact same incident occurred, except during the struggle a 9mm fell out of his waistband, thus ending the immediate danger.

The talking happens after he’s in handcuffs. This isn’t a negotiation. They aren’t required to explain in detail all laws and reasons why he’s being detained before they can cuff him. They attempted to cuff him, he resisted. You don’t back down at that point and decide to talk it out, you raise the level of force.

He was high on drugs and had been waving a gun at people who called the cops. Let’s try and reason with him.

Damn, just saw the bodycam footage... It adds a whole different perspective than the cellphone footage does.
Sterling should have immediately followed police instruction but damn, they came in hot and heavy. He shouldn't have reached for his gun during the struggle, or even moved his hands in that direction, but I can see why one of the officers was let go. We don't need that type of officer out on the streets.
Sorta reminds me of that shooting in the hotel hallway of the drunk 20 something year old guy.
