If he's really truly excited about going to LSU, then he should. I can't imagine being that happy about something, but being talked out of it by an ignorant high school kid. His schoolmates' opinions won't count for shite in about six months.

Which is why I was shocked when I started hearing him talk less and less about LSU. And it's not just one kid, it's several and also his college counselors are encouraging him to "reach higher" to put it nicely and they really got in his head which is not hard to do ... he's your typical very impressionable 17 year old kid that what's to be accepted by his peers.

I always thought LSU had a good reputation so this was a bit of an eye-opening experience to me.

Maybe he should go somewhere else, because his idiot, LSU alumnus uncle apparently doesn't know the definition of "impressionable".

ETA: haha, nice edit. Maybe not so dumb after all.

LSU does not have a good reputation when it comes to academics. I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily bad, I just think it gets overlooked by the reputation of it being a football and partying school. That’s what’s appealing to most out of state kids.

I smoked dope, ate ecstasy, drank, and tried to get laid every single night while I went to LSU and still graduated in the upper quartile.

If your nephew likes to do any of those things, I strongly recommend LSU.

If he has the ways and means to go to a Rice or SMU, he’d be foolish not to.

really......really? I'm happy with my experience and hope I'm a decent ambassador for the LSU alumni "reputation", but I hope my kid aims higher. I didn't know any better. Going to college was all my parents cared about and I picked LSU because it seemed fun and I always followed sports. Never once thoght about applying anywhere else (besides LaTech, but knew I wouldnt go there). Really wasnt a great reason to choose a place that determines the rest of your life. The guys I work with who went to Georgia Tech or Stanford definitely got more attention. Yes, I got the same job as them with my LSU degree, but there's no doubt their resume got looked at before mine.
