Yes, I love a good musical. And my normal musical taste is heavy metal - Megadeth, Pantera, Metallica, etc., so I didn’t expect to enjoy it so much. I’ve been to most of the classics and popular ones that have come through New Orleans. Then I made the mistake of getting great seats for one, and once you do that once you have to do it for every one. Watching from the first few rows is a whole different experience since you can see every facial expression.

Been to Les Miserables multiple times, West End and Broadway. And then Lion King on Broadway, I'd really love to see Hamilton.

I saw Hamilton in Chicago about a year ago, thought it was excellent. I also grew up with Pippa Soo, from the original Broadway cast.
Basically, that's the extent of my Musical Theater experience: Hamilton
ETA: Also a fan of Dream Theater, but I don't think that's what you're looking for

My wife has dragged me to Cirque du Soleil a couple of times. I didn't hate it.

Not sure if Cirque du Soleil would qualify as musical theater, but those shows are pretty much all great.
I was literally stunned when I saw The Beatles: Love. Absolutely incredible.

I know it doesn't, I was just trying to feign some sign of being cultured.

I have to say I enjoy dramatic theater better, but musicals are a bit of a guilty pleasure and my wife teases me about it from time to time.
My favorite classics include
Oklahoma
Pirates of Penzanze
Guys and Dolls
The producers
Newer ones are
Urinetown
Spamalot

You all have not seen enough of the Sondheim musicals. Dude writes lyrics that will have you laughing out loud. The film version of Into the Woods may be better than the theater, just because the size of the sets is larger (and the voices excellent).
Sweeney Todd may be my favorite for the pie song, alone.
Evita is brilliant and the movie acceptable (should not have cast Madonna, she was too old)
Company is big city personalities.
Follies can be heart rending, we saw it at Tulane Summer Theater, and the "older women singers" were all stars of Tulane Summer lYric from decades earlier, and the audience was in tears with broad smiles on their faces.
If you ever get the chance to see Assassins, you simply must. It's so much more than a musical.
Hello, Dolly. I saw it with Carol Channing and later with Pearl Bailey.
I even saw Annie Get Your Gun with Ethel Merman (Broadway Revival).
Miss Saigon in London WITH the helicopter and Lea Salonga.
The Wiz on Broadway.
Starlight Express...again, if you ever get a chance, it's not staged very often. A musical about toy trains...and it's great.
All the early Tim Rice Andrew Lloyd Webber collaborations.
For a lot of these, there are movies made. For some, only the sound tracks are available. Sondheim's lyrics are so fine, well worth seeking them out.
And then the D'Oyle Cart productions of Gilbert and Sullivan.

I didn't really like this show. It had it's good moments, but I wasn't blown away.
Maybe because everyone who sees it is almost expected to love it. My fave song was "You'll Be Back" sung by King George III.

Oh so the hipster mentality? That's why you didn't like it?

I didn't like it because I didn't think the songs were all that great. I never claimed to be a theater critic.

Don't forget about the small theatre's like Le Petit in New Orleans. They don't do as many musicals but the price is great and it is a small setting so you are closer to the stage. Going to see Streetcar there in March.

The American Dream song kicks arse when it is done right.

Since this is relatively fitting, The LPO is playing music to a live showing of Jurassic Park on the weekend of the 19th. We went the last time they did E.T. and it was really great.
