Can my son who is 20 keep a pistol in his vehicle even though you have to be 21 to buy a pistol in the state of Louisiana?

Yes just can't purchase it or the ammo for it. He can possess it.

edit to add statute

LRS 14:95 is where you can see most of firearms laws for state of La.

§95.8. Illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile

A. It is unlawful for any person who has not attained the age of seventeen years knowingly to possess any handgun on his person. Any person possessing any handgun in violation of this Section commits the offense of illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile.

Yes The way I understand it your vehicle is your castle. An extension of “your home is your castle”. Subject to same search and seizure laws as your home. OT Defense lawyers could give us the correct answer if I’m wrong.

Amendment two says he can have a gun wherever he wants. Some libtard cop tries to say something then you tell him to blow it out his snowflake butthole.

Lot of confusing info, but the correct stuff is in here.

Can keep in it his vehicle, loaded, in center console or plain sight, without breaking the law. CC holders are required to tell LEO they have a weapon if pulled over, he doesn't have to.

No.

ETA: I actually called the state police a couple of years ago about this. My son was going hunting with some buddies and wanted to take his pistol. IIRC I was told that it is unlawful for someone under the age of 21 to be in possession of a handgun.

But I killed many brain cells since then so I might have remembered incorrectly

I am not a lawyer, but I have watched a lot of Live PD. Everyone on the show who has a gun hidden under the seat gets arrested.

Make sure he doesn't keep it in the same place as his registration and insurance, and teach him to obey the officers during traffic stops. Let them know he has a pistol right away when pulled over and keep his hands on the steering wheel. I wouldn't want my son taking any chances.

I may be wrong, but its 21 to buy in a store. He can still buy and possess elsewhere. As long as he is above 18, he is gtg
