They were called to the hotel for a man with a gun pointing it out the window. When he began crawling, they had already told him to show his hands, he clearly reached towards his pocket and waist band and got shot. Maybe they could have used a taser, but I'm not second guessing the officer. He leaves his house every night wanting to get home to his family as well. Most of us never have to worry every day that we might get killed doing our jobs. The guy was drunk waiving guns out a motel window at patrons..The old saying play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Maybe we can put to rest the debate that only unarmed black men are shot by police.

Im sick of the “we don’t have to worry about getting killed on our jobs” bullsit excuse to act like a pussy wanna be Call of Duty living killer. No one is holding a gun to these pos heads making them be cops. They know exactly what they’re getting into. The truth is most of these local cops are Polk High School heroes that could’ve won state if coach just would’ve put them in. There is no arrest protocol that tells you to have the person crawl towards you. You have them put their hands up, turn around and walk backwards slowly towards you. Then you cuff them.

That people like you exist genuinely worries me. I can’t fathom seeing that video and thinking “but he did move his hand inappropriately”

That you are seemingly both so obedient to authority, and have such distaste for your fellow man...

And the victim left his house every night wanting to get home to his family.

Jesus Christ he had an AR-15.

The Cop is saying, I am so trigger happy in only protecting my life that I have to blow you away with a semi-auto for pulling up your underwear.

The Cop was never in any danger. But that's the symptom every stop every provacation is a recipe for being murdered by cop. Like that kid who flashed a cop and was pulled over then because the kid claimed the cops high beams were on and the cop shot him.

If you couldn't take down a guy who had a pee airpistol shooter in his underwear once he saw it...then that's pathetic. And he didn't even have it on him when he came out of the hotel room. It was t-shirt, guy at a La Quinta Inn, in America, wearing flip-flops and shorts...what a danger to some guy acting like he's in Fallujah.

Standing over a guy with military equipment like he's some dude in Iraq with a cell phone about to bomb everyone.

I guess America has beocme Iraq if you think this shoot is Kosher. Can't blame him? WTF?

The cop is a nut-job but he's a product of a system that has taught deadly force as a normal thing...which means cops treat Americans as the enemy...and their own safety as the only thing.

This is an American Citizen not a foreign enemy.

You're supposed to put your life on the line like Fire-Fighters...(they could also say frick it and just bolt from a fire) - but this no patience, no control from officers, no restraint...just this bullshite shoot first ask questions later.

WTF is that? Why did that become policy? You see it everywhere. You Tube could have a party with those videos.

So did the guy crawling on the floor. One of them had a rifle. Also, this is the worst argument possible for defending these shootings. What you're really saying is that we have a very large group of cowards roaming around with guns and badges.

Maybe?

Well, you're a boot-licking pussy. A badge, a vest, and a minimal number of hours in training do not give anyone the right to commit murder. I'm sorry you don't have enough dignity to value your own life, but hopefully you'll gain reason to in time.

The fact that some anonymous stranger claimed to have seen a gun means NOTHING. Do people not see how fricking dangerous this is? Is it really OK for anyone to just say the magic words and get a fricking short-dicked pig to go execute someone for you with no investigation or trial? No. That is not OK.

Philip Mitchell Brailsford should be headed for death row.

I have had all of two minutes to analyze this situation and it looks bad to me. I may be the number one cop defender on this board, but this just doesn't look right.

It seems to me they could have ordered him to turn around while his hand were in the air to see if he had any weaponry on him if that is what they were worried about. The guy seemed to be genuinely cooperative in every way. Perhaps he was drunk. The orders seemed a bit confusing to me.

My instant analysis says there should have been some punishment for the cop in this case.

I approach every one of these situations with the benefit of doubt being in the favor of the cop. This one chills me.

I still have unreserved admiration for police in general - and the rarity of even close cases does not sway that. There is no perfection in human behavior and to demand it in every interaction is a fool's mission.

Oh gtfo out with this bullshite. The cops had about 10000 opportunities to arrest that kid before he decided to just shoot him for no reason. Cop was a coward and there’s absolutely no debate otherwise.

Yeah well, I’m sure that kid wanted to go home too.

They had him on his knees at gunpoint, with his hands up. Walk up and cuff him.

What is "crawling" about?

Crawling is about nothing at all but humiliation, and finding an excuse for murder.

I'm not either. No need to second guess. This was 2nd degree murder.

The verdict was inexcusable.

Why have him crawl at all? Cops are fricking morons.
He's on the floor spread eagle, just walk to him and stand on his hands.

This is the cops fault all the way. I felt like I was watching a cross between twister and Simon Says

I hope that cops child gets treated exactly the same one day

Shut the frick up

While the guy was prone on the ground send somebody over to cuff him. The cops created the scenario in the hallway.

Oh ENOUGH of this bullshite. They need to stop being cops, period.
We are not better off being “protected” by people that are so worried about their safety that they will shoot in the situation depicted in that video.

The guy didn’t have a gun. So he wasn’t “waving a gun out a motel window.”

This gentlemanly police officer shot the man with his personal AR-15 that had a stencil on the side that said “You’re fricked.” He should’ve never been a police officer. You can tell that just from listening to two minutes of the tape.

I am.

The main problem is they didn't know if there were more people in the hotel room so they couldn't advance until both suspects were restrained.

His partner(s) had one suspect cuffed and under control and he had the other lying in a completely defenseless, prone position.

At the very least this means he had backup with him. At that point it should have been him watching the doorway while his partner ordered the remaining suspect forward while having a tazer drawn on him.

I haven't looked at this case but did either of the suspects have a firearm at all?

As disgusted as I felt watching that, although iffy, from the cop's POV protecting his own life and not mine sitting on my arse in my living room, it's still within the realm of justified considering dealing with obviously emotional and reportedly intoxicated and armed person.

Sucks but that's reality.

I'll second guess the crap out of those guys. They deserve to go to jail.

Screw you fro enabling the continued murder of citizens by our alleged protectors.

I'm sure the guy crying on the ground for his life wanted to go home to his kids as well..

Too bad his kids will never have a father, because a cop with an AR was "scared".
