That is an SEC record. Pretty good for a guy who didn’t make the Butkus Award list.

It goes to show you that the people who give these awards out are just plain lazy. They just look for the best players on the best teams UNLESS there is someone whose numbers are too good to ignore.

Let's compare White to the finalist:

White has more total tackles that ALL of them.
White has more TFL's than ALL of them
White has as many or more INT's than 4 of the 5 finalist
White has as many or more sacks than 2 of the 5

The only spots where he is behind (slightly in some cases) is Forced fumbles and passes defended

So what did White do wrong?

A. Not play for a team in playoff contention (Clemson, Wisc., Georgia); a national brand (Michigan) or a guy thought to be a possible 1st rounder (Edmunds at Va Tech)

He has 127 tackles which is 6th all-time at LSU for a single season. Unless he disappears in the bowl game he should easily move into 4th place ahead of Kevin Minter (130) and an outside chance to crack the top three (3rd is Lawrence Williams with 144).

I wonder if he'll have a shot at Bradie James' record of 154 next year. If we make the SEC CG or the playoffs it would be pretty much a sure thing.

That right there is insane. Just for reference though, at Boston College, Luke Keuchly had:

158 as a sophomore
183 as a junior
191 as a senior

He has been a stud all year. Very glad the staff that recruited him, steered him toward LB and not RB.

He's bulked up to fit his position, and he's done an amazing job. Hope we get to see him play 2 more years at LSU holding down the middle. Great player.
