Go visit Montreal and then get back with us. Like New Orleans, it's a major metropolitan area in North America, and it has a strong French influence. Unlike New Orleans, a single murder was the story of an entire summer I spent there a few years back.

I'm sure they have their problems, but my wife and I roamed their streets day and night without EVER feeling unsafe. New Orleans has gotten so bad that I routinely decline opportunities to visit a major metro an hour or so away.

If N.O. is "the best thing this shitty state has going," we got problems.

Baton Rouge and Lafayette are both 5.4%. La as a whole is 5.3%. You’re not making much of a point.

1. The roads and infrastructure are abysmal. They probably give Detroit a run for its money.

2. The politicians are absolutely awful. Top 5 worst elected officials in the country, in Scruffy's opinion.

3. The citizenry is pretentious and view the massively overrated city as some sort of Mecca.

Their defense of their city is beyond the point of overcompensating.

4. The police force is abysmal.

5. The checkerboard structure of the city where million dollar homes are a block away from the slums is easily the most retarded structuring of any major US city.

6. The traffic flow in NOLA gives BR a run for its money.

It's still the best thing this shitty state has going in the eyes of the nation and world. I just guess it makes people who live in places like Prairieville feel good about themselves to talk shite about places where they don't live.

Nola is a terrible city and the crime is now leaking out into the suburbs around Nola. The city was once great and glad to have grown up there but just not the same. I moved to San Diego in march and realize I should have done this years ago. Now live in a temperate climate basically year round, crime is almost non existent in my area and career opportunity is boundless. Doesn’t hurt that the women look like models out here.

When was the last time you were in Detroit? What about New Orleans?

Name 3 that are top 5 worst in the nation. Make sure you name current politicians that represent Orleans Parish.

As a whole NOPD does a pretty good job. They are far from perfect but they’re okay.

Meh. It’s not nearly as bad as it used to be. Property values are at an all time high soooo your point it moot

NOLA traffic is a piece of cake compared to BR

IMO, Scruffy is an idiot.

I hadn’t been to the French Quarter in four years until last week.

It was dumpier and much more ghetto than I ever remember.

I can’t dispute that there is rampant poverty and high unemployment in the black community however there is a budding tech scene. The announcement this week will be the first of many.

With regards to quality of life, we have the most diverse and high quality food scene in our history, two professional sports teams, and a great music scene.

I am happy to raise my kids here. They enjoy the undeniable spirit that pervades this community.

WF - You should come check it out again sometime.

TB08, a lot of your argument there was “sure we suck, but others also suck”

Defeatism at its finest.

And I think if you ask the NOPD, they would admit they are FAR from fine. It’s pretty abysmal around there. But that’s due to a lack of support, it’s honestly not their fault.

New Orleanians have a skewed view of their self-importance. For most, it is nothing more than a weekend get away for a bachelor party or one of many festivals/Mardi Gras. However, locals like to boast of it like the city is thriving like it was some 200 years ago.

Outsiders come to enjoy the city's food, architecture, and unique (almost un-American) lifestyle. That's about it.

When it comes to the final day of the trip, I've found most are dying to get back to their homes and sense of normalcy.
