Your contenders:

Silverback Gorilla

Height: 5’ average, 6’ largest
Weight: 300-400 lbs average, 500 lbs largest

Main weapon: Bite, Strength, Opposable thumbs

Grizzly Bear

Height: 10’ tall
Weight: 700-800 lbs average, 1500 lbs largest
Main Weapon: Bite, Claws, and Strength

Fighting Prowess
Gorilla's throwing hands (33-45sec) (warning: annoying white women)

Bears throwing hands (1:43 sec - till)

Who you got in the match up of a lifetime?

Gorilla. Would have a much easier time getting around his opponent due to his athleticism.

ETA: I retract my pick. That's a pretty significant size difference that favors the Grizz.

This article states that a Russian miner in 1895 witnessed a moose drinking from a stream when a Grizzly bear approached from the other side. Moose are very territorial, and they are especially known to attack anything they perceive to be a threat to their water source. The moose charged full speed across the stream, and just as it neared the bear, the bear stood up and with a quick motion swiped the moose in the side of the face. The moose’s head became decapitated and flew a distance of fifteen to twenty feet.

I've always wondered how a rhinoceros would fare as well. But between those two, I'm taking the griz.

A full grown Grizzly would destroy a full grown gorilla fully 100% of the time

What good would the gorilla's opposable thumbs do in an animal fight? It's not like the gorilla could grab a gun.

Grizzly. Gorilla has no armor/protection and grizzly claws are huge. Grizzly would shred him.

He could jerk off the bear until it let it's guard down.

One aspect these questions always ignore is why are they fighting? It's not like they eat each other or fight for sport. Tell me who's go more to fight for, like one is defending their babies, and I'll tell you who wins, or rather who backs down first.
