Obama? Obviously you didn't read the full article which states that this was going on under Mubarak ( long before Obama) , and the Arab Spring "brought some respite for the city's embattled LBGT community".
The Arab Spring eventually failed & just replaced one US supported military dictatorship ( Mubarak) for another (El Sisi).
There a lot of El Sisi fans here.
