Both are dangerous and intolerant for similar reasons. At some point, you're just discussing varying degrees of each.

There is only one true religion and the rest can die away. Christ is the only way to peace and reconciliation with God.
Everyone else feels the same way about other religions that they don't practice.
I'm not religious, but we attend a Universalist Unitarian church because we like the discussion and such.

So do we.
I go mainly for my wife though. Sometimes I have to tune some of the political shite out.

Big difference between faith and "fire insurance. "
Posted on 10/19/17 at 6:37 pm to Perfect Circle
That's my point. People saying "better hope you're right" are treating it like insurance.
Posted on 10/19/17 at 6:42 pm to northshorebamaman
On that point, you're correct.

So what point are you disputing?

It's completely accurate. Christianity has more in common with Islam than y'all like to admit. Certainly more than even the worst forms of "Atheism."

Yes, you're right about everything, but you're leaving out the most important part.
Followers of Christ base their beliefs on the life, teachings, death , and resurrection of Jesus. Why did He have to die?
His death is a sacrifice.
All have sinned and deserve death. Spiritual death is eternal separation from God. God cannot tolerate sin in His presence. So how can we stand before Him without the taint of sin?
God by His Grace rescues us from certain death.
Jesus allowed himself to be crucified as an atonement for our sin.
HE TOOK THE PUNISHMENT WE DESERVE.
If being "good enough" was sufficient for us to be in God's presence for eternity (heaven), then Jesus didn't have to die.
God is a loving God, but He's also a just God.
Those who believe and have faith that Jesus took the punishment we deserve will be saved.
We can't earn Salvation by words or actions (being good). It is a free gift for those who believe.
Concerning those who sing hymns, put money in the plate, quote scripture and cheat on their wives; they'll be judged the same as the rest of us.

In simple terms, Christianity says to be good to all people. Islam says to be good to other Muslims and to kill & steal from anyone not a Muslim. I guess that's similar if you look at it through a distorted lens.

So, you are saying that 2 religions with tenets are more similar than an ideology with no tenets or true beliefs other than "there is no god"? Say it ain't so.
