This is just the wrong mindset. Look at the Rockets. Top 10 in payroll every year, with no room. But they are still in the hunt for the top free agents every year, cause Morey makes it happen. The Wiz are paying Gortat and Mahinmi a combined 30M. You are saying there is no way they can shed that?

I still don't understand our confidence in resigning Cousins. His agent flat out told teams if they traded for him, he wouldn't resign. We cost him tons of money making that trade. Why would he bluff? As far as why Washington? It is a top 3-4 seeded team in the East that cake walks into the playoffs. His BF in the world, Wall, is on the team. He will still get a monster contract in a huge market. It's as likely as anywhere else..

Because, he didn't want teams to trade for him? That's reason enough to bluff. But it happened, and there aren't many teams with cap space next season.

Teams don't have a huge amount of cap space next season, they would have to trade multiple 1sts to get off of Mahinmi alone, and at least 1 to get off of Gortat.

Washington would have to shed 42+ mil in guaranteed contracts in order to offer Boogie a max deal. Good luck with that.

I’d have to take a closer look, but in addition to being similarly capped out and bumping the tax like the pelicans I think the wizards are also similarly asset poor like the pelicans. So yes I do think they would have a hard time moving 2 high paid centers in a trade environment where no high-priced centers are moving.

To add to what epic said, his agent was bluffing because if Sacramento did not trade him he’d have forced them to offer the big-money extension and made about 50 million more dollars.

I'm a little late to the party, but..
I'm pretty sure his agent meant he wouldn't sign an extension and would test free agency. It's clear Boogie won't re-sign mid season. It's also clear we can offer him more money than anyone else in FA.

Cap experts back me up on this. Amiright?
