The funny part is, had Culp missed the field goal and we lose - guarantee we would be seeing a ton of threads asking why we didn't go for it.

You realize you're doing the opposite yet equal thing that you're complaining about here, right?

But you JUST said we had our timeouts and could have stopped them like we were doing all second half. So what advantage does coming up short on 4th down give you that missing the kick wouldn’t? Explain that, coach.

You make a good point. We only needed 6” and had we got the first down Auburn would have had to start burning timeouts. I was okay with the call. Nothing is guaranteed with our offense, Auburn was tough to run on when they knew it was for sure coming, and Culp seems pretty damn accurate from inside the 45. Me personally if I was the coach I would have tried to convert the FG. But I agree OP you do have a valid point. I was in the stands and my gut was Culp was going to nail that FG. Sometimes I think a coach has to play it on their gut instinct and this time it worked out for us.

Thank you Earthquake. You seem like an intelligent person.

I doubt we make the first down, then all Auburn needs only a FG to win. O was right to kick the FG.

Not really. You're wrong.

My call is the right call. It's the higher percentage play. That's the difference.

WA HAPPEN? I TOT COACH O SAID OUR KICKER SUCKS??? FIRE HIM!

I actually have the same stance on the 07 Byrd catch. If that is tipped and the clock hits 0 it’s arguably the dumbest call in LSU history. He caught it thank God but I still hate that play

And if you don’t get the 4th down, you become the guy who could’ve taken the lead late, but opted to turn the ball over on downs. Take the points and let the D do their job.

I think a stupider decision was Gus not going for it on 4th and 1 around midfield. I feel like they would have absolutely gotten it..

Gus made the right decision there. Other than a couple big plays LSU made Auburns defense played lights out. In the second half LSU's offense really didn't do too much. If Auburn didn't get it LSU would have had a short field to take the lead.

I feel sorry for you that you hate one of the best moments in LSU history because your superior football mind thinks it was a bad call.

Yes, we may have stopped them. But statistically we're playing into their hands by giving them field position by kicking a field goal we shouldn't have.

You're focusing on the wrong point - my point is that we had a higher percentage to make a half yard conversion versus kicking a 42 yard field goal.

Try to keep up.

We had about a 60% chance of making a 42 yard FG. What were the chances of converting the fourth down? About the same? Even if you convert it your chances of scoring points are about 75%. Your overall chance of scoring if you go for it is 0.6 x 0.75 = 45%.

So you have a 60% chance of taking the lead by kicking a FG, and a 45% chance of taking the lead if you go for fourth down. Of course, your situation is much better if you score after converting, because you might be up by more than a FG and there would be less time left. Rather complicated, but I'd say it was about an even bet. I would not have blamed O for the call either way.

While i’m convinced you’re just trolling, I actually hope you’re just that dumb. Makes this more fun. If we’re short, they take over at the 25. If we miss, they take over at the 25. How is that giving up anything?

27-23. I’m keeping up just fine. Dumbass.
